Hello. I bought the Squier stop dreaming starter kit http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=513287 a year ago, and recently got a macbook. I was excited to plug my guitar and jam on garage band, but the macbook won't pick anything up from the guitar :? I am using the same guitar in the kit along with the same cable that came with it and i bought this to convert the plug from a 6.3 mm to a 3.5 mm http://www.proelgroup.com/proel/en/dieh ... 3895626590 and nothing is registering on the MB .
Do I have to plug the guitar to an amp then to the MB. or maybe I need to get a different adapter ???

please help. I don't know where else to turn

All my thnx go to anyone who can help :D

I'm not totally sure of your situation here but as a garage band user i'd say try checking your prefs (shortcut: + comma) on garage band and make sure your input is NOT set to your internal mic, but rather to whatever you are connecting the guitar to the laptop.

if you're going to be doing real recording with a band you should get some sort of processor or something that connects all the instruments with your laptop via USB.

Welcome to the Forum.

Using an adapter and plugging the guitar directly into your computer will not work. You need some sort of an Audio Interface.

ThnX alot :) I thought that was why but no one ever says you need to do that. do you think it'll work if I plug the guitar to the amp then from the amp to my computer ( I need to get another wire cause i only have one ) or do I need something special.

Thank you so much for your help man, this has been killin me :D

Garage Band is an audio editing software for the mac. it's cool cause you can plug a guitar straight into your computer and start recording and add affects.

you can see more at http://www.apple.com/ilife/garageband/
