I own a 1996 Squier affinity sunburst Squier Stratocaster. I bought it secondhand and bought something about $60, I know I can't complain, if anybody should give $60 and ask me to make a guitar with that money, I would surely not get the same result!? But never the less I have doubts about the body. Although the neck and neckplate do indicate that it's a 1996, the serialnumber begins YN6... and underneath the tuners is the sticker Fender 50years of excellence. The body has only a approximate 40mm width and is less wider and less heavy than my 2003 double fat Strat Squier. Could it be that this body somehow is correct, or has it been changed?
If the body should be correct does anybody knows of wich wood it's made, some say it's Alder, but I find that hard to believe, although the sunburst finish is really nicely done, nice flame in the wood, this body can can surely withstand the comparison with the sunburst finish of my MIA Stratocaster.

Thank you very much for your reply.

First of all the finishing has nothing to do with body wood, but more so with the paint process. For some reason nobody else really does a sunburst as well as they do in America or on higher end MIJ or MIM. Odds are its agathis.

Affinitys have smaller/thinner bodies than other Squier/strats, so that is normal.
