I believe the Affinity body is thinner and Alder, the Standard is a Agathis body. I am no expert but I think Agathis wood is very similar to Alder. The Affinity has 6 points trem, the Standard has 2. The Affinity has 21 frets, the Standard 22. The Affinity has ceramic pickups versus Alnico for the Standard. Also I think the Affinity has the large headstock. I have an Affinity at home for the kids, I actually play it from time to time because it is so small and light. If it wasnt for the larger fretboard ratio and the light weight, it would feel and sound a bit 70's Strat. Hope this helps.

The Standard has better parts, but I think most of the difference is what happens to them after it is assembled.

I would imagine it goes something like this: A Starcaster, Bullet or a starterpack special pretty much goes from the assembly line to the sealed box, An Affinity might get a quick onceover, a little more detail into the setup on the Standard, a bit extra for Deluxe, etc., untill you get into the Custom Shop range where it gets the full treatment from the best in the business. Think that is why some people can get a great Affinity or Bullet right out of the box and others get a lemon. You shouldn't have to take a brandnew anything to a repair shop, but if they aren't setup properly at the factory then you don't have much choice unless you can do the work yourself.
