Hi can someone confirm or deny this picture for me as being an 80's Squire Contemporary.. I am interested in buying this guitar but somethings are bothering me about it, IE the floyd rose trem and just the odd look of it...I have the serial number it is E939871

Is this a good guitar to have in my collection? What are they worth?

Any help or other pics of this guitar would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Well, unfortunately the pics there are just so bad they don't really show anything. I will say that a good number of the Fender and Squier Contemporary's had the Fender System I or III trems but from what little I can see, I can't really tell what that thing has...could be a Floyd.

Anyways, here's a little general information on these for you...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Con ... ster_Japan

Now according to that stuff, if it's really a Contemporary, it should have a System bridge but as we see further down, with a bit of work you -can- use a Floyd on there instead. I would also note that in the description that's in that picture it does say the trem is a "Floyd II knock-off". In this case I would want to see some nice clear pictures showing any markings on the bridge...if it says Fender or even just a big ol' "F", then it could be a System bridge and that's what should be on there. The seller's description may be mucking things up there a bit.

Now in addition to what's on Wiki there, I will say that if it really is a mid 80's E series, those are typically very nice instruments to say the least. I've said it before and I'll say it again...the folks at FujiGen really got things right. I've got an '85 MIJ E series Squier and it really is one of the finest Strats I've ever seen....just truly wonderful workmanship. If you look around on the internet (or even these forums) you'll see that those mid 80's E series have a very good, well earned reputation as being really great, really well made instruments.

Beyond that however, I really don't feel comfortable saying too much more...again with those pictures we really just can't see anything at all. On the headstock pic the logo looks consistent with my '85 but it's so small and so fuzzy it could easily be a fake...even a bad fake or something and you wouldn't really know. As far as the shots of the body go...what can I say...it's apparently a Strat shaped guitar with 2 singles, an HB and some sort of trem. Oh yea...looks like it's got a rosewood finger board (although it could be ebony or Pau Ferro even spray paint based on the pictures). If I were considering this guitar, well...honestly...I would NOT consider this guitar based on those pictures alone. I would either want to see several, much larger, clearer pictures (detailing everything) or I'd want to see the guitar in person before I even considered any kind of offer. On the one hand yea...it could be a very nice guitar but on the other hand, with those pictures it could be almost anything just as easily...just no way of knowing without considerably better images.

Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear,
Jim

Thanks!

Basically I bought it or I should say got it in a trade with some other stuff.

Its an '89 contemporary with a licensed Floyd Rose. Its Korean made and from what I can tell from my investigating "89 was the first year for the Korean made Squires. Everything I read said that they where mostly made with the Japan left over parts but I am not sure mine is one of the early ones with these parts.

People rave about the necks and they are right its awesome. I am going to give it a bath then post some pics.

I am still weirded out by the Floyd cuz all the pics I have seen of this guitar they are identical except the Floyd, most had fixed bridges. I would love to see pics of someone that has one so I can know if mine has been messed with.

In the trade I also got a really cool 1976 Hondo II strat in amazing condition. The neck is awesome on this too. I know its no collectors dream but I kinda like the odd older guitars.....
