I just bought a beautiful Fender electric guitar that looks exactly like a Les Paul, the only name on it says 'Squier by Fender', What is this thing? it has a beautiful curly maple top with NF3 and NF4 pickups. The serial numbers start with KC so i figured it was made in Korea by cort. What is the name of the model Though?

I've seen them on this forum before. Very strange. Best bet is Google or Wikipedia. Look around the net and you will find somebody that has them.

Enjoy,

Squire made some like that but they were not les paul copies. Fender aquired D'armond guitars and sold some of their models under the squire name I think that was in the 80's

I don't know the model name either but I do remember those. I seem to remember quite sometime back (at least several years ago) walking in to a local music store (Lentine's here in Northern Ohio) and being -really- confused because they had some inexpensive Epiphone Strats on the wall and some Squier LP's, LOL!!! There was just this moment of "ok...what did I miss? Who bought who?".

Ok...I just went and dug up one of my old Fender "Frontline's"...in the 2002 Fender Frontline they show a Squier "Series 24" line of instruments. There's an M-50 an M-70 and an M-77 all of which look similar, although not really identical, to an LP (almost like a "child safe" LP with nicely rounded edges and such, LOL). In this same line, they also have a Squier S-65 and S-73 which both look quite mysteriously like SG's and there's also a Squier "Starfire" which looks suspiciously like a 335 or "Dot". Most (if not all) of these guitars also seem to have set neck construction and even Duncan pickups too...my goodness...whatever could those people at Squier have been thinking? LOL!!! Yea...2002 catalog so those aren't really that old. I'm not sure if they've been around longer than that or not though.

EDIT: Ok...as Idaho said there, there are some DeArmond versions of these instruments too...not sure when those started compared with the Squiers but they are pretty much the same guitar...just looks like the DeArmond versions are a bit "fancier". Either way, I'm going to try and link to a picture I found on the web...not sure if it's going to work or not but if so, here's a Squier M-77...

Now the OP did say the guitar he/she bought looks "exactly" like an LP so I don't know if this is really the model or not...this "sort of" looks like an LP but not exactly...more like it was "inspired" by an LP. Should be a good start though...

Alrighty, hope that helps!
Jim
