I took apart both my squier Strats and noticed they both have 500K pots. I guess they are standard in squiers. I am putting some Fender Custom Shop 69's into one of my Squiers so if I keep the 500K pots is that going to make a huge difference or is it something I could just adjust my amp to compensate for??? Or should i put in some 250 K pots? advice is appreciated.. thank u.

Most likely the reason there are 500k pots in there is to try to enhance the sound of the squier pickups. An attempt to make them sound brighter and less muddy. 500k pots allowing higher frequencies to go through. If you put the new PUs in they may sound too bright for your taste, try it, it wont hurt. If not up to par you can always replace them quickly.

500 k pots are not standard on Squiers, most of them have them, but not all. If you are putting in better pickups you really need to update the pots, switch, and cap. That stuff contributes more to the sound of your guitar than you think.

I'd have to agree with Yogi. Too many people put new p/u's in a guitar and are disappointed cuz they sound like dog do. For around 30-35 bucks you can get a Fender Strat upgrade kit on ebay with new pots, caps, switch, and jack. This will not only make your upgrade easier you can simply pull the old electronics out intact. Heck most of the suppliers will sub no-load tone pots if that what you want.
I cuss'd a switch trying to get the old wires off and I think I screwed it up by overheating it so I won't waste my time. It's new parts or nothing for me

You're gonna want all 250k pots man, 500k pots generally make Single coils too bright. Many people like different caps. Some like PIO caps, some like orange drops. I'm not sure of the direct properties of each so you'll have to do a bit of research. However I do know if you are using 500 k pots your strat is gonna be way to bright. 500k pots are usual used with humbuckers

one strat will need 250k pots w/ the fender custom shop 69's and the other strat will need 500k pots cuz im puttin in humbuckers that fit into single coil slots. So i have all the pots ordered from stewmac. I wanna get some pickup selector switches will the ones from stewmac be good enough quality to do the trick? how bout the caps?? any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
