Hi fellow Squier aficionados,

I thought I'd show you my 86 Squier Hendrix 'tribute' Strat. My wife painted Hendrix's head using oil paints - which took weeks to dry!!!
(I did the freaky background.) Here's how it began...

First, the guitar was sprayed white. Then Jimi was painted...

Next, I added the background colours (I thought it looked cool at the time).

The finish was then lacquered to offer some gloss and protection. It is shown here with my USA re-issue neck and electrics fitted.

The final incarnation - blackie.

I still use the guitar on a daily basis, but Hendrix is long gone - partly as I'm no longer into his music. Today, the guitar is (naturally) reliced Sonic blue.
It's still a great guitar!
:D

I liked it the way it was. I also liked it better with the maple neck. Looked cool. I wish I could paint like that. Post a picture of what the guitar looks like now with the sonic blue paint job.

If I would a Squier Hendrix Strat, I'll take a white Squier Standard or Affinity with the '70 fat peghead and the maple board strung upside down. I'll also add a set of reverse-staggered CS '69s to nail Jimi's sound.

I am actually more interested in how you got the paint to stick to the pickguard. Didn't it scratch off?
