Well, as always it really depends on the type of music you play and the kind of sound that -you- are looking for. What sounds really great to me or anyone else here may sound like crap to you (and vice-cersa). Personally I play mostly classic rock and blues and the only Lace Sensors I've ever cared for are the golds...personally I'd never use the reds or blues for anything. I've played a few Strats with them over the years and I personally just don't care for the tone. That said, if I were going to put that kind of money in to a set of sensors, personally I'd go with either Duncan or EMG's myself...but that's the kind of sound -I- like. I've got Duncan Performers in my '96 MIM Strat and I -LOVE- them...great all around pickups to say the least. That said, if I were more in to metal for example, I might prefer something like some DiMarzios or something else instead. If I did "just blues" I might lean towards those 57/62 reissues or even the Texas Specials...it all really depends on what you're looking to do and what kind of sound you want to achieve.

With that I would also add that I do honestly believe that it can really depend on the guitar itself too. For example before I put the Duncan's in my '96 I had a set of Fender Vintage Noiseless in there. They sounded good in that guitar but the Duncan's sound better. After that I put the VN's in my '08 Squier Standard and in that guitar I really didn't like the sound at all...the stock Alinco's sound much better in that guitar. The VN's have finally found a home in my '85 MIJ Squier...in that specific guitar they just sound really lush and full (far better than they even sounded in the '96 MIM)...very nice indeed. So again, it really kind of depends on what you're looking for...everyone has different tastes.

Just my $.02 worth as always,
Jim
