Hello...

I have been thinking about upgrading the stock ceramics in my 2007 Affinity for some that sound a little more, well, Strat-ier. The stock pickups sound great compared to most of my friend's guitars, but I'd like something with a little more bite. My price range is up to around $100 for the set. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

At that price, new, you can try Fender Tex/Mex.

You could try a set from guitarfetish.com. Lots of choices fro well under $100 including shipping.

I would look seriously at loaded pickguards. If your going to upgrade the p/u's you should consider the same for the pots and switch. You can find Fender Strat upgrade kits on ebay and other places that have pots, switch, and capacitors. And they are all Fender Parts. I just picked one up for my Tele. GFS stuff isn't bad. Beware of some of the Fender single part stuff out there. I got a couple of Tex-mex p/u's and the wires were cut so short on 2 of 3 that I had to splice new wire to make them work. Some of these guys part out new guitars but they don't take much care when they disassemble them. Look for p/u sets in the box.

Thanks for the advice! I was looking at the GFS Vintage AlNiCo staggered set simply because of cost but I am leaning toward Tex-Mex because I really like that crunchy Strat sound. Does anyone have any suggestions between the two? Tex-Mex is about as high as I can go (don't you love high school?).

I really think you need more than just the p/u's. So for less than $100 look at the first 2 links below. If you can do the soldering that's all you'll need. You may even like to add a TBX 8)
