Hi all,
I'm new to the forum so I would like to say hi to everyone.

I just bought a Squier Vintage Modified Strat HSS and revived it yesterday,
after removing the protective plastic and tuning it I got curios and checked out the Check List tag that was attached to the guitar and the date of packing was 11-6-08, that's just over two years old.

So her are my questions:

Is it ok for a guitar to sit for two years? (wood, electronics and strings)

What might a new one have to offer? (my guess is there might be some improvements)

Will Fender warranty this item? (I will have to contact them)

Should I consider excepting a reduced price?

This was bought from J&R Music World, the say say factory fresh and 100% guaranteed - I have not contacted them on this issue.

Your thoughts and feedback would be most appreciated,
Thanks,
Glen

Hi glen5700, and welcome to the forum! I cannot imagine any reason why the guitar wouldn't be just fine. As with any new guitar, you should have it properly set up--that should eliminate any issues that may have arisen from the time since its manufacture to the time you received it. Not to put to fine a point on it, but a packing date of 11/6/08 makes it just over one year, not two. Depending on a given model's popularity, that is not an inordinate length of time for a new guitar to go unsold. So don't worry. Set that baby up and go to town! 8)

Glad to help. For what it's worth, all my guitars are dated the year before I got them: I got my 2007 Strat in 2008, my 2008 Jazzmaster in 2009 and so on. And to answer your other question: yes, Fender will honor the warranty from the date you purchased the guitar. 8)

Oh, and we need pictures of your guitar. Number-one rule around here: no picture, no guitar!

The only thing that irks me is when they jack the price of a guitar thats been sitting on the shelve for two years gathering dust when the price increase was for the new model year.

Well as you know I jumped the gun thinking it was 2 years when it was really one.

But I have been playing it today and it's sounds really nice, my only problem is some tinny rattling noise - it's a bit better after adjusting the bridge but it still needs work.

I did buy the guitar as posted above from J&R Music World for $299.00 plus a $30.00 gift card and free shipping, I thought it was a pretty good deal.

It is a great deal. Here is what they go for:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=512573

As far as tinny sound, it may need to have the pickups adjusted a bit. Duncan designed pickups need to be at the right height for the to sound good. Keep tweeking them and you will find the right adjustment.

On this site do a search for "nickel meathod". It is a good starting point to adjust your pickups.

Forgot to post, how old is new? If you bought it first hand from a store, then it is considered brand new. (this means you are the orginal purchacer.) The waranty is just what it is, good for:

Don't forget to register your new guitar.

I'm wondering how special a Special Edition is if they keep making them for the past several years, like the Black & Chrome series of Squiers... If they are going to keep making them just like the "regular" editions, then why is it so special?
