I have a Tele that I installed new pickups (Guitar Fetish Lil Puncher XL's), pickguard, control plate, knobs and switch on. It seems to be set up correctly but I still have a buzz/rattle when it is played, especially if the string(s) is struck hard. It sounds sort of like a couple of washers vibrating on a metal plate when a string is struck. I could almost swear it sounds like the string itself is buzzing/rattling. The strings are new (EB Regular Slinky), they are not unraveling. It goes across all the strings but is more obvious on the E A D G strings. It is not fret buzz and all of the screws are snug. It happens with open string, fretted, up and down the keyboard and is more pronounced from the middle of the fretboard toward the nut. Nothing seems loose. But I'm unable to figure out what is the cause.
Can anyone point out anything that I may be over looking? I believe I will have to take it to my GC tech and see if he can find it and/or redo the setup.

Sometimes after string changes, the screws that adjust saddle height can get loose a bit and cause a rattle, or sometimes the nut at the tuners gets loose too. I'd check those 2 areas...maybe also make sure the sting trees didn't get loose either.

Could the neck be bowed or twisted? I've heard that this can cause a buzzing sometimes. Also how low is the action at the nut? If it's too close this could explain why it increases as you move toward the nut.

It seems to be all correct, no bows or bends.

I have tried muting anything that could possibly rattle by pressing and holding with fingers or palms. Does not make a difference. It's very hard to describe, but it still seems that if you get in close to the strings it is as if the string itself is rattling or buzzing. I just came up with another possible way to describe the sound...like a comb and tissue paper kazoo. Not as loud, but very similar. I'm going to give it up, and take it to the tech, let him see what he can do. If it still does it, I'll just get rid of it I believe.

I would think that if the string core was broken, then you wouldn't be able to play it or tune to pitch, because the string would most likely be broken. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but plains strings are pretty much just a core, and the windings on wound strings don't seem like the would keep a string together at pitch if a core broke on a wound string...

Are you sure its from the guitar and not the amp? Just wondering....

Maybe the truss rod is broken or maybe has truss rod nut been loosened too much and rattling?
