I'm a working musician and I have owned Squiers since the 1980's I love having guys look down their nose at the guitar then their jaw drops when they hear it, I also have a couple newer Squiers too along with Fender MIM, MIA, and Custom shop

Squiers aren't just for begginers but are primarily used and represented as a beginner guitar by places that sell them. Personally, I prefer the tone of my epi LP studio for most of the music that I play but for alot of clapton and hendrix stuff its always goin back to my squier strat.

I've heard of pros using squiers in a pinch when thier instruments haven't made it in time.

I wouldnt say squiers are only for beginners, my uncle bought me a standard series telecaster and I've been playign for over a year now and I like that swuier that most fenders i've played. I think someday it'll be excepted as a intermediate level guitar because to me anybody you hand a fender/squier is gunna play it and I dont think it'll matter which they have. I personally think it depends on your level of skill. I'd use a cheapo strat and play anytime, I might not like it as much as a three thousand dollar fender, but im sure i wouldnt really care as long as i had something thats playable

I recently purchased a squier strat from ebay and it turned out to be a great guitar. It has a c-neck with an early 70's style headstock and it plays and sounds great. I also own a epiphone les paul standard. You don't have to pay big money to get great sound and playability.

8) I just got a Jagmaster, to add to the Std. Squire Strat, an' it's Great. :D I own several Vintage axes, and don't want to carry 'em into a "Barwars"!scenario, as you can understand! I used to own a Guitar shop, in th' '70's and these Squires are the equal of the C.B.S. and Pre.B.S. axes, I used to work on an' sell. These guitars are Habit Forming! Ionly wish I had gotten a '51, when they were available! :(

I was considering a strat or a tele but after reading this forum I think I'll stick to my Squier. I'm an intermediate player who does not play in a band so this seems to be a perfect fit. I do have a question about moderately priced amps. How does an amp affect the performance of the guitar? I prefer more of deeper sound. [/b]

Your exactly right about "habit forming" I've been playing for twenty years and I've always like to try diffrent guitars but they were so freakin expensive. Now, in the day of "ultra cheap manufacturing"the prices are way lower but yet retain a great deal of quality. I buy Squiers when ever I can just to change them to suit me.A couple of expensive pickups and some tuners, and your still way ahead of the game

Well....I don't still have my first Fender. It was a red '66 Mustang. Or my second - that was a red Coronado II. But, I still have my third Fender - a'70 Tele. And with the cool new Squier Teles just introduced, I might have to add one of those to my collection - which is at 6 Fenders right now.
Why? Well, the Vintage-Modified series is pretty cool. Especially the one with the mini humbucker. Have my eyes peeled for a nice example of one of those!

Squier strat is basically a more retarded version of a regular fender strat. Good for beginners, but I know that as soon as I get some skill im trashin my squier strat for something good, like a regular stratocaster.

I always get a kick out of these type of questions:

If someone thinks you're too shabby with a squier... then maybe you need to practice some more. make them notice your playing instead of the logo

It's true that appearances can mean a lot however.

If you're auditioning it COULD be a factor to some. If you've got the gig, play what you want.

As far as using a squier professionally... if you're REALLY working you use what YOU get the best out of at least until someone offers you an endorsement contract....then you keep hounding them till they get what they send you right :D

FWIW between my son and I we have approximately 50 guitars around. My "other" strat is a custom job with each pickup (Seymour Duncan HS 18volt livewire actives each costing about the same as my affinity strat ) I like the feel of my new affinity limited edition better....that's how I ended up with it...liked the neck feel so much I HAD to get it.

Trying out an amp at the same store two weeks ago I described my other strat and asked for something equivalent to test the amp

They handed me a top of the line...someone's signature I think with a price tag rivaling a good used car...

I like the feel of the affinity better

BTW I also have had a Squier Tele...from the 80's It has been my #1 telecaster since I bought it...I Think the pickups were changed and I did a volume control mod Otherwise It's same as when I bought it,!

The Sentry says

Quote:
"Squire would be a perfect brand to introduce new variations to the market and new technology. There's always going to be the want for those high end pricey guitars, but IMHO Fender is totally and completely missing the boat with Squire."

Hate to say it but I tend to agree.

I feel as though I need to go to confession or something!
