This thread has really made me trust in the Squiers now. And I'm highly considering getting a Tele Custom or a Jagmaster ASAP.

Great posts and everyone is entitle to their opinion so here is mine.

I was reading the Guitar World article on EVH (March 2007) where he states that his '61 Strat PAF humbucker modified guitar sounded thin. Which led him to Boogie Bodies ash strat he found on the bottom of a stack of seconds.

I'm totally freaked out that a classic strat didn't live up to expectations for one person and he sought alternatives to acquire his tone.

Bottom line: It's about the sound not the brand or name on the headstock.

Find your sound and put a piece of tape on the headstock if you don't want anyone to know. I associate with people that have signature guitars with tape covering the names cause everyone suddenly expects them to play like BB Kind or Buddy Guy.

I've got a Squier Thinline Tele that i got off ebay for £150 a few months back. It's sometimes referred to as a Master Series in some shop ads i've seen online and retails for about 3 times the price i paid, which puts it into MIM Fender territory. It's one of the nicest guitars i've ever had. It's a bit of a rarity i think, as it has a set neck and two humbuckers. The only other one i've ever seen is in a local shop with a £350 price tag on. The shop owner says no-one wants to buy it cos it says Squier on the headstock, but both it and mine are excellent. Besides, i like having a cheap guitar i don't have to worry about, and the fact that it plays really well just seals the deal.

:D I have an affinity series made in malasia the cheapest of the entry levels. This guitar sounds great. I also have a 00018 Martin circa 1946 and an Ibanez AF75T needless to say the Martin is the best of all the guitars. The Affinity Strat seems to stay in tune ok I plan on makeing some mods to the pickup selection on the 5 way switch. Overall I like the guitar. Like one of the others said read In the Masters Hand that really says it all

Snobbery amongst guitar players has always been problem and Squier in some cases are in no way inferior to Fender, despite what people think.
Two models as example:
Squier Pro Tone Series (MIK).
These were made for a shortlived two year period then discontinued because they were eating into the US Fender market profits.
I have a Strat model and it is very good. Some say better than the US Fenders.
Squier 'silver series' (MIJ)
Similar story but more long winded.

Dont get me wrong, i own 5 Fenders and love them. But there are great Squiers out there.
I once swore that if i ever became a famous artist i would exclusively use Squier just to rock the 'snob' boat.[/b]

I suspect many gear snobs can't play, and compensate for their lack of playing through snobbery. I have said it once, and I'll say it again, I'd much rather listen to someone who can play great on a $10 guitar, then watch someone with $10,000 worth of equipment who should have bought a $10-How to Play Guitar book.

True. Some people are like that whether they take up guitar, golf, fishing... whatever. They have to have the best gear straight away.
Then there's the real snobs. The guys that have been playing 40 years and think the rest of the world (except Eric Clapton) is inferior.
You know the type, every town has one.. "i remember when i had a jam with John Lee Hooker......"

Does anyone play squiers except for beginners and Avril Lavigne and her husband?

I'm tempted to buy one just as a throw away guitar, but the shame of being seen with a Squier prevents me :-)

My first Tele was a Squier Affinity in Butterscotch. I bought it as what I thought would be a throw away guitar and I really didn't like Teles at the time. After playing it for awhile I became very impressed with it. It sounded good, played well, and was a good looking guitar. Hard to beat for the price. The neck felt a little flimsy to me compared to the Standard and the American. I did eventually trade it to get the American Tele because I like American made guitars better. The Squier played and sounded much better than a beginners guitar. Had it not been for that 1st Squier Tele I probably would never became a Tele enthusiast. I too had a problem with the Squier logo on the headstock. There is a little "guitar snob" in all of us.

Great video; totally explains that the musician and the music that comes out of the guitar is more important than the "Brand" of the guitar.

Remember that we love to play the guitar for the love of playing and creating music.

Godspeed and great 2008.
