You guys are confused. The "Hobbyist" label you are referring to has nothing to do with what you checked in your profile, but instead has to do with the number of posts you make. The more posts you make, the higher you move up, into the different stages and the picks fill out. Just check out other posts on the other forums and see how people have different things there...

The # of posts you make???? I guess then, that ANYONE who spends more time posting than pickin' is considered a PRO!!! I guess you don't even have to actually PLAY a guitar, to be considered a pro, just a good typist. I mean, I've only been playin' guitar since '65 or so. When I went to school, there were the old I.B.M. punch-card computers, and only the severely learning- impared "Took Typing" as a Subject!!! Dinosuars roamed the streets, there were no cell phones, or Modeling Amps, and you had to actually KNOW how to "Get Sustain and Distortion" [which , usually was accompanied by a visit from the LOCAL POLICE]. Yep, I guess I've PAID MY DUES , but , I suppose since I've only owned ALL of the "Fender Classics " Guitars & amps, [before they became Classics], and GOT PAID for Actually Performin' with 'em, but, am NOT a typist, I'm relagated to the Esteemed Catagory of "HOBBYIST"

I see. Then the rankings actually refer to the activity of posting in forums - not playing guitar.

I can live w/ that. This stuff certainly doesn't qualify as a profession

wildmann-

Got any fond memories of Hammond B-3's, Leslies and Moogs? I love swapping stories(saw a stagehand lift a Hammond to the stage by himself, once).

Wow! Can't top that one unless we get into bar fight stories - maybe.

M2 - is that the one that's built like a living-room organ - full console to the floor?

I played w/ a guy who had one of those - needed a strap-on dolly w/ big handles to move it. He also had a Moog w/ a bazillion patch cords.

Yeah, you got it!! An M-2 was an M-3 w/o Percussive attack [Piano- type ringing at the onset of tone]. Full skirt to the floor, needed a piano strap- on dolly, to carry/roll it around! Hey! :? , I wonder if you belonged to the Amer.Fed. of Musicians, do they consider you a PRO  Oh, Yeah, when the club owner tells you that you're the NEW "HOUSE BAND" :D , and you ask ,How Long??And he sayz- "Indefinitly" :) You can count on about 6 weeks!! :( Thats about the amount of time it takes for the "Groupies"-[waitresses, girl friends, etc. ] of the Previous Band, to, [By Whinin' and Bitchin' and With-Holdin' "FRINGE BENEFITS" (to The Owner!!)] "Convince" Him to Bring "THEM" Back. I have found out that "Talent"has very little to do with it. :( What Counts is,-- How Many ??FEMALE "BAR-LIZZARDS" follo' you 'round the "Circuit"! (Local Clubs/Bars/Cut'n Shoots, and "NO- TELL MOTEL' Lounges.) Kinda like the # of POSTS ya make HERE, to get your RATING of "PRO", Skill is not part of the equation!! So, Remember "Kiddies", Its not what ya know, Its Who Ya--  [ Oh! , I can't say that here! ] Another "Useful Nugget" of "Musical Survival" from your "Ol' Uncle Wildmann" 8)

I have two Squier guitars. I have an Affinity Tele (slightly modded) and a Master built Esprit. I gig with both of them and don't care what anyone thinks. I also have Fenders and Gibsons and a few others as well. The Tele is as good playing a guitar as I have found.

I agree. My Squiers are feel just as good, or better, than many of the Fenders I have tried out.

Uhh, it's just a word on a web forum.

One forum I post one has some really hilarious ones for the various level of posters.

No one will really think you're actually a hobbyist rather than something else because of the little post-based designation the site gives you. For example, at one Telecaster forum I post on, one high-poster designation you can get is "Friend of Leo." Nobody thinks those folks really knew Leo. It's just for fun.

:D

Lastly, to get back on topic, though Squiers may not be the top of the guitar world, there's no reason they can't be perfectly usable, even giggable guitars. I used to have a MIJ Squier Tele I gigged all the time. I still have a MIJ Squier P-bass I gig.

In 2006 I was fortunate enough to play bass with Bo Diddley (a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for any of you young kids who may not have heard of him) at a one-off benefit concert. I played my MIM Fender Jazz Bass, and my backup was my MIJ Squier P-bass! Two inexpensive axes I'm sure lots of people could make fun of if they wanted to.

Play what sounds good and what you can afford and don't worry about the name on the headstock!

Wow I didn't know my thread would cause this much controversy.

I happen to own a Squier, btw. It's a strange one.

Strat body, but with none of the wasit cutouts, 3 pickups, and of all things, a telecaster headstock.

Sounds great unplugged.

You need to post a pic of it! I don't know if I've seen one of those before...

8) Well, If I cared about what some kid, who still lives at home thought, I'd play my '70 ES 335, or my '65 Epiphone Sheraton. :P Or, If that didn't work, I'd borrow my son's ESP-1000. Still an' all, the Squire Std. Strat I got for a Back-up Ax, plays as well as the '57 I traded off![Who Knew??] :? Look me up on th' Digitech gnx 4 Workstation Forum, where, I'm "MESSIN' with Shredd,[Better than Messin' with Sasquatch]" :P If ya need to have a few yuks, He's a pretty good player, listenin' to his up-loads! :D

Late this summer I started messing around with an acoustic and got the idea that perhaps an electric would be easier for a beginner. Yes at age 59 I’m a beginner. In Oct 2007, after and unplanned stop at a Guitar Center, I purchase a starter set put together around a Squire Affinity Strat. The surprising thing is I never impulse buy anything. I am finding this very easy to learn on. I have let a couple of more accomplished musicians (bar giggers) play it and they thought I was great and I got hear what it really can sound like. A couple weeks ago I went into the same store I purchased the Strat and having learned a few riffs I did not feel very intimidated as I had before. So I tried out a couple of Fender Strats and a Gibson Les Paul. They were really nice instruments but I really didn’t think they were that much better. Grant it I may be too much rookie to tell. Any way I really like my Squire Affinity and enjoy playing more then I ever could imagine. If in the future I do end up buying something that is higher end I don’t thing I would part with this instrument.

As one poster on this site previously stated, “Geezer Rock does rule!”
