Does anyone play squiers except for beginners and Avril Lavigne and her husband?

I'm tempted to buy one just as a throw away guitar, but the shame of being seen with a Squier prevents me :-)

Put a Squier guitar in Eric Clapton's hands, and everyone will want to buy one. I purchased a used Squier for $80 and it turned me on to Fender. Why? because it played like a dream, and sounded better than I thought it would. If you ever get the chance, read the poem called "The Master's Hand". You'll know why I suggested it after you read it

There is nothing really wrong with Squire, they just need a little more fine tune work than a Fender. I have not tried one yet but from what I read about the Mexico made Fender's neck I think I would rather have my Indonesia made 20th aniversary Squire Bullit. You can Fix up any guitar and make it what you want, who cares what pepole think of the name if it looks, sounds and plays good they will soon change there opinion.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul, a Squire Stratocaster, and an Ibanez RG 7321 and I really only play on that Squire. I can get mym Les Paul's tone out of it. Squires are pretty good guitars

Some Squiers are beginner guitars, it just depends on which which kind you get. All 3 of my Squier Standard Teles play just as well, or better than, Fender MIM Teles, but this of course, was after a thorough set up.

Actually, if you look closely at most live pics of Sum 41, Deryck is playing a Fender usually. I think the main reason why they have signature Squiers is because thats most likely what a large portion of their audience can afford since they have a younger fan base than Eric Clapton or Yngwie.

Squiers can be great guitars, they can be finetuned to be even better.

I have a squier deluxe (with an alder body) that I put new pups in, and a wilkenson trem, locking tuners, new wiring, basically new everything. The only thing squier about it is the wood. I love it; plays just like any fender.

They're good for customizing.

I've been playing for over 30 years and I've played all kinds of guitars. My two main instruments currently are a Squier Standard Strat and a '51. Both are somewhat modded, and they sound and play at least as well as Fenders.

BTW - There's no shame in being seen playing a Squier. Ask Jeff Healey what his headstock reads.

Then those people aren't worth worrying about!

Seriously though, I find that most people who would give you crap for your gear choices are usually either has-beens that never were, people who can afford to be gear snobs-but can't play, people who are jealous because they spent more than you did and still sound like crap or can't play, and/or are just plain ignorant and uninformed. There's nothing that bothers me more than a person with $3,000 worth of equipment, but didn't even bother to take a $20 lesson or buy a $20 book to learn how to use all that equipment. A good guitarist will sound good whether they are on a $10 guitar or a $10,000 dollar guitar.

I've got a Vintage Modified Cherry Sunburst Squier and I have to say its one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen, and I plays just as well as my buddy's $1,000+ Strat :)

Here is pretty much the bottom line. It don't matter what you play, people are going to find fault. I took my great playing and sounding MIM P-bass to a gig to have another band member say I must have changed out the pickups because Mexican P-bass's have crappy pickups. No, I didn't. I had another lead guitarist cut down my Floyd Rose temelo, said he wouldn't have one if someone gave it to him. Then he play it 1/2 the night. I have actually heard people say a Ric is junk. Work on your music and ignore those comments. Then when you have been around a while, refrain from doing the same.

8) I was the owner of a guitar oriented musical instrument shop. I used to have to adjust/tweak ALL of the '70s Teles/Strats that I sold. I have owned a '57 V Neck Strat. I also owned a '58 black L.P. Fretless Wonder, a "71 ES 335, an original reverse Firebird with the Gibson Mastertone Banjo Tuners [the Real Deal, per. Johnny Winter, not re-issue], a '65 Epi. Sheriton, a '58 ES 125, 2 or 3 Epi solid bodies [Bat-wing headstock,'60s], a Mosrite double neck 6/12, a '70s Tele, Guild Bluesbird & Starfire 5. I've adjusted [truss rod-bridge p-ups etc. every guitar made through the late '70s. I played the Paul, Tele, Guilds & 335 Gibson on 6-niter gigs for 20 years. I bought a Squire Std. Strat, ' Tweaked' it a little, And now that's my Ax of choice, for Recording/ week-end gigs etc. I still have Most of my vintage guitars, but , the Squire's so clean/crisp compared to my Gibsons. If you have to use it as an " El Ka-bong" in an episode of "Bar Wars", you haven't lost/destroyed an irreplaceable Vintage Treasure!! [quote]"Geezer Rock Rules"[ C/W & Blues too !! ]8)

This discussion overlaps one I'm having in the Custom Shop forums right now. I've cross-posted the pertinent stuff to this discussion.

Owing entirely to my Squier Standard Series Strat(given its “Best Buy” award by Europe’s Total Guitar magazine), a Strat is now worth no more to me than $200 - the street price of a Squier. Pay the full price for a Fender model, it had better be shielded w/ gold foil because there is not another $600 worth of value in it anywhere.

Add to that - a Squier has the full strength of the Fender brand behind it. You can be sure that they have to meet a minimum standard for a Stratocaster in order to not weaken that Fender brand.

IMO - Fender is crazy to mirror their most iconic products(Strats and Teles) in the Squier line. It has led to a Squier + hype = Fender attitude that is prevalent among older Squier players. Originality would be a smarter marketing path, but Squier only does this in limited runs. For example, discontinuing the Venus, the '51(Editors’ Pick Award in the October 2004 Guitar Player) and Master Series - all VERY popular - was indeed foolish. The Jagmaster will probably be next - a mistake, because Fender offers nothing like it.

My local Fender dealer figures Fender is currently going for the Sharper Image/J Peterman(Seinfeld) catagory of "snob appeal" purchasers.

Apparently this Squire Forum does not recognize the Profile designations Pro & Semi-Pro, 'cause I know I did not [I re-checked] designate myself as a Hobbyist. Can it be that according to the Gospel of St. Leo, Squire players can't possibly be pros?? I'd bet I've got more "paid gig"time than some of the moderators have been alive. I tried to e-mail the forum admim., but , It wouldn't fly, using the address provided. :? "Geezer Rock Rules" Wildmann 8)
