That's good info. I'll have to remember that when I'm looking at other string brands.

I thought I might try to help out anyone who might have had this problem before but didn't know what it was.
On my Vintage Modified Squier Stratocaster I kept having problems with random strings (usually the G, B, and sometimes D) suddenly dropping tune on their own, and continuing to do so as you try to bring it back up with the tuner. This was usually on newer strings so I figured maybe it was a bunk string or something, so I would replace the faulty one with a new replacement one that comes in it's own little wrapper. No problem anymore.
After that I wouldn't have any problems with the strings,......until I replaced the whole set. Sure enough after a bit, one or two strings would start down tuning on their own again, and using the tuner is like pushing a ball up a hill.
The first time I though I checked out every possibility, no, I did not.
After removing the faulty string (D'addario XL110 10-46) I noticed that the ball end was oval shaped, yes indeed, the ball was slowly squeezing under the pressure which caused the string to slip as the ball slowly slid further into the shaft. We all know D'addario has those neat colored ball ends, and it seems they are made of some sort of alloy that is not near as strong as the brass balls used on most all other brands, this is why the single replacement strings didn't have that problem since even D'addario replacement strings have BRASS balls. Solution, switch to a brand using brass ball ends.

TO be fair to D'addario, I use their classical strings, and bass strings without any problems, but my Strat really hates them, or they really hate my Strat.

Oddly enough, this is why I use Fender Bullets. I just do not have these issues. I use D'Addario's only on guitars with double locking tremolos. I just cut that ball end off then lock them in.

You may have just got a bad set. I have used D'Addario strings for over 20 years, and this is the first time I have heard of this happening. I believe D'Addario will replace defective items free of charge if you send them to them, so you may want to try that out, and then if they send you another set and it does the same thing, then I guess it may be an issue, but to me, it just sounds like a bad set...

I've been using D'addario strings for...well I don't know for how long. I've been playing guitar for ten years (I am 25 now), and I find D'addario strings to be the best for me. I used Fender Bullets until a I got a couple of bad sets that lasted like 4 days. High e string broke, I replaced it. Then g string started unwounding after two weeks or so. I replaced the whole set with Bullets 009 again, and g string started falling apart again. And d string too. After 3,4 weeks. I change strings once a month or so. I play much in the studio, don't do gigs. So I took D'addario and have used them ever since. It was 5 years ago. Never had any problems with D'addarios. But I still think those problems with Fender strings were due to bad storage or something like that. But I'll stay with D'addario.
