hello everybody..im kinda new here but, i will get to point at hand lol. i have a 88-89? squier super strat? made in korea. its h.s.s. with no pickgaurd and, knobs are little offset positioned than regular stratocaster. it has the floyd rose locking tremolo on it with locking nut. on the headstock just above the locking nut is a bar with 2 screws holding it on and, the strings run underneath it. do i really need this bar? i want to try running strings straghit shot to the tuners without being bent downwards by the bar on thier way to the tuning pegs. i figgure the locking nut would prevent them from popping out of the nut or, am i missing something here. thanx in advance for any help.

Yes, you need the bar as it is there for a reason. See, if it were gone, the angle of each of the strings coming out of the back of the locking nut towards the tuners would increase and/or deflect. This situation in turn would create the risk of the locking nut literally crimping and eventually cutting the strings because of all these (now) distorted string angles.

You were smart to ask first rather than find out the hard way.
