I'm looking to buy a backup Strat to my American Standard. I was considering a Fender MIM Standard Strat but a friend of mine told me that the Squier Standard is essentially the same guitar but made in Asia. If that is true it would be about $250 less. Do any of you guys have experience with both and what are your thoughts. If thats true you could buy 2 Squiers for the same price as a new Fender Standard. I do know that Squier has been getting some pretty good reviews on their newer Classic Vibe series. Thanks for your input.

Personally if you could afford it I would spring for a classic vibe. 2-3pc Alder bodies, Alnico III/ V pickups, Quater Sawn 1pc maple necks on the 50s, Quatersawn 2pc Rosewood fretboard on the 60s. Ping Vintage tuners. Medium Jumbo frets with great fretwork.

The Squier Standards are pretty decent guitars. The MIM Standards have Ceramic pickups and the Squier Standard has Alnico. The MIM is Alder, the Squier is Agathis I believe. Both are full size. The Squier has a 2 point trem the MIM has a 6 point. They aren't really the same guitar, quite different actually.

I'm thinking about the Squier Deluxe Strat. Great reviews and about $280
