Hi guys!

I have 2 Squiers Strats MIJ, one from the E series and the other from de Q series. For what I have read here, the first would be from 84-87 and the second 92-93. I bought both in second hand and they sound amazing.
Since the E series is in bad shape and needs some care with the electronics (the pots are rusted) , I was thinking in using a loaded and pre-wired pickguard. I was thinking about Lace sensors, Dimarzio or Fender Custom. Do they fit properly on that Squier Strat model? I know the screws probably won´t match but the size would be the same?

I can't speak to the Q series, but yes, the E series Fenders/Squiers were from the mid 80's. I'm sure I've mentioned this in other threads but that particular series was manufactured at the Fuji-Gen plant. The quality and workmanship is just outstanding on these instruments. I have two E series, an '85 and an '87 (and the body to build a third when I find the right neck) and I've had both apart and have gone over them very thoroughly; the quality was just exceptional...very impressive. It's the cleanest routing work I've ever seen on anything other than a Custom Shop instrument. In fact I swapped the necks on them...I really prefer the maple fretboard, particularly on a "Black" Strat (as in I'm a serious Clapton fan, LOL!). Oddly enough, I've been enjoying having the rosewood fretboard on the red '87 (the doner of the maple)...been using that one down in the studio practicing lately. And the '85 body with the '87 neck, my Blackie, is now my #2...Ol' Blue (the '96) is still my #1 (err...next to my wife of course). Anyways, for the most part, these instruments were often considered "imports" and particularly in the case of the Squiers, can be found for a pretty decent price considering that both the Fenders and the Squiers of that era came off the exact same assembly lines.

Yes, standard single coils, regardless of the brand should fit that MIJ Squier. In fact, I have Fender VN's in my '85...they sound -sweet-...which is kind of interesting because I didn't really care for them in my '96 MIM...replaced them with Duncans...but in the MIJ, they're very nice indeed. That said, the -best- tone I've ever heard from a guitar...and I've heard it twice now...came from an MIJ E-series loaded with EMG's (2 different guitars several years apart). Oddly enough, both of those instruments also had the Series 1 trem

Peace

Hmmm?
Okidoki.
Back in '82/3 a school mate of mine bought a Squier Strat 62 Reissue. Back then, they had large spagetti Fender logo and small Squier logo and a JV serial number. Here in the UK, colour choice was... sunburst only. The following year, the logo changed to a large Squier logo with the model name in the 70s/early 80s style typeface. Colour options were sunburst, black, white and a limited run of fiesta red. My father has one of the fiesta red ones. These JV serial Squiers are ten times better than anything that has displayed a Squier logo since. They were made at the Fuji factory, the same place as Tokais and several Japanese brands.
The SQ and E series instruments followed in '85 replacing the JV models. The SQs were based on 70s style models, but used inferior hardware to the JV models. The E series guitars were loosely based on the then current Fender range and were not 'vintage reissues' and used locally sourced hardware. I have a Telecaster from this era ('86) and my father had a Strat ('87) in red - it was just a regular red by then, fiesta red was NOT available, the next Squier to carry fiesta red was the Hank Marvin signature in '92. These were good instruments, but not up to the standards of the JV models.
I forget the year, but sometime in the late 80s, production of Squiers moved to Korea. I had a Telecaster from this era circa 91 and it was the worst guitar I have ever played - plywood body, neck that did not resemble any Fender style shape, cheap crappy hardware and pickups.
Since then, Squiers have improved to the point where they are comparable with their competition - not surprising, since the they are usually made by the same people.
The guitar in the OP isn't an 80s instrument and to be honest I'm not even convinced it's a genuine instrument, since I haven't seen or heard of Fender reverting to the smaller Squier logo at any point since '83. Also, as far as I know, Squiers have not been made in Japan since the 'Silver Series' guitars of '91-'93.

Have you not noticed that the entire point of this thread was to point out that the squier series that my guitar belongs to is Japanese made and from 1995. This has been confirmed to me personally from the Factory, complete with the full spec all to be read in this thread?
