Howdy all. I'm looking for info on a Korean Fender Strat Serial No: M2793204. I can't seem to find any info anywhere. Maybe someone might have come across one before. It seems that Korean Strat didn't have the M prefix. A bit confusing. I've already got vintage fender pups in it and changing the hardware to all things Fender. Just curious when it was made.
Thanks.
Jerry.
P.S. The guitar was bought in Australia 'bout 12-15 years ago.
Cheers.

Mexican Squiers
MN: M = Mexico, N = Nineties (1990s), the first number following the serial number prefix is the year.

For example

"MN8" indicates that it was made at Ensenada, Mexico in 1998

Thanks Mustangtoo. I suspected that the prefix 'M' stood for Mexico, but the confusing part is the 'Made In Korea' info under the Serial number & also the Serial No having Seven Numbers..A little weird!!

Well, those numbers are for standard strats but the letter usually indicates country or factory. My Korean starts with MV. Most Mexicans I've seen have fat necks and large headstocks.

Either way you have a decent instrument that will provide you years of enjoyment as mine has.

Thanks again Mustangoo, your info makes a lot more sense now. My Squier has a thin neck & headstock. I've dropped 3 single coil fender 62 RI Pups in it & the sound is just what I was looking for. I'm going to change all the hardware to genuine fender ASAP. I think 'The Guitar' looks a bit the same as the white one J Hendrix used. I believe the axe was purchased in 1994, but probably made in 1992 judging from the first letter of the Serial No. I've posted a few pics of the axe on my space a\c:..myspace.com/jujuboys. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cheers Mate & Have yourself a very Merry Xmas & ALL THE SEASONS PARTIES.
Jerry.

Hey Jujuboy! I`m having the same problem at the moment in trying to identify my Korean squire. It says on my headstock 'Made In Koreo' with the serial number M2715009. I`ve been informed that it could be a fake!! Why the hell would anyone want to fake a squire strat? lol!

Jesus, I mean who the F**** would? LoL..
You've have to have some serious mental issues I reckon. I suppose we'll never find out..At least that adds to the Mystique. My reasoning is that Korea ran out of necks & got some in from Mex-y-co and solved their problem that way..Can't be anything else...Anyway, I really like my one, especially the neck, so I've modified the Guit to a early Fender sixties (62-63) beast..Sixties vintage pickups,Machine Heads, Bridge & by the time I'm done, somebody who knows Guitars is gonna offer some good cash for it, but it's gonna stay right here with me for the rest of my life. Everywhere I've played it, there are always Guitarists who drool over it & sometimes if I know them, I let them have a feel and a little play...
Thanks for your info Broadleday..Just modify yours into a real Fender you like. I reckon you won't regret it.

See Ya.. : 8)

Don`t get me wrong. I`ve never had any problems with it and it plays extremely well and sounds great! I bought it from a friend about 20 years or so ago but was never a great fan of the cherry red colour so have always meant to give it a paint job but have never been sure how to go about it. Don`t know what type of paint to use and have always wanted to mod it

Hi Broadleday, I'm sure your guitar is a good one. They made them well in those days. I think mine is a 1994 model based on the 60s Hendrix model, same color & specs..That's why I wanted to mod it to the sixties. It was actually given to me in a not well looked after condition.
Good luck & keep rocking. :D

I suppose your Squier is probably an earlier version of mine going by the serial No...Mine starts with M279 & Yours is M271..It could be a few years earlier..Whichever way it goes, I guess we'll never find out..We should demand a Royal Fender Comission so we can get to the bottom of it..HaHaHa. I mean you gotta laugh; But then again, no use fixing it if it ain't broke.
Take it easy. 8)

Hell yeah! You gotta have a sense of humour if you own a squire! Like you say if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it! Talking about fixing it, the screws that hold the lead jack in place are just spinning in the holes and I`m getting buzz from the loose connection. Any ideas on how to fix that? I`ll post a pic of mine when I get round to it. Really want to mod it too but don`t know where to start. Can I use normal Fender strat parts on a squire? What sort of paint would I repaint it with?

Check they posts under screen name concerning the thread "Korean era Bullet" there I step by step explain how to repair stripped screw holes. Most of the time simply inserting round or flat toothpicks will work. Other times filling the original hole with chop sticks shaved down and cut to length or toothpicks/wood splinters with glue then re-drilling a new hole are necessary. Use the appropiately sized wrench to tighten the input jack nut. Do NOT use pliers as they'll leave sharp edges fromtheir serrated teeth where your hans will be often, no one wants chrome plated shards under the skin or a sliver of metal. You might try a socket on a ratchet or an adjustable/crescent style wrench with parallel jaws.

Howdy Mr Broadleday, hope you're doing well. Sorry haven't been back to you earlier but been a bit crook with Chronic Neuropathic Pain ( 3 long #$@*&!% years now) & when it really hits, it's curtains for everything else. Pain Killers & more Pain Killers :x. But I'm back on line now, I hope for a while. Anyway, to get to your wanting to Mod the Squire, I usually just use fender parts; machine Heads, Bridges & also the pots along with the Pups of course. Everything should fit pretty easily. Maybe sometimes you might to do some slight modifications but that's comes easy. Paint wise is the most expensive part it you want original Fender colors. Best thing to do is shop around & find someone who's been doing it for a while for cheap. I also get most of my parts from Reliable Fender or DBG Guitars ( check 'em out). If you're in the States or close you'll save a heap on postage. I'm in Australia & sometimes the postage is more than the parts I want. I find DBG is the cheapest but all their stuff is Mexican if U don't mind Mex.
Anyway Good Luck & keep Rocking. 8)
