Pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/mithikx/SquierStratocaster#
(blurry cause of my stupid camera)

Pictures are a bit old, I cleaned the dust and rust off the thing, and fixed the bottom pickup.

The serial is A019xxx serial so I think its '85-'86 from what I can find online, I haven't been able to find out what model it is. Key features are the black head stock, rosewood neck with maple on the back, lack of a pickguard, side mounted output jack, pickup switch does not move- it acts more like a light switch, one volume and one tone knob.

If anyone can tell me what model this is I'd appreciate it.

As a photographer, I just love how folks blame their blurry pictures on the camera! LOL!!! Since you did manage to get one or two reasonably sharp images, please know that it's not the camera... Next time try shooting in better light...perhaps outdoors.

In regards to the guitar itself, based on the painted headstock my first impulse would be to say that it's a "Contemporary" and the serial number does indicate that it's an 85/86. What throws me here is the double humbuckers with the lack of a pickguard...that seems a bit unusual to me. Most of the double fat Strats I've ever seen have a pickguard. I've found a couple without at;

http://www.strat-central.com/japan.htm

The issue here though is that all of these seem to have a Floyd Rose. More over as BigJay pointed out in one of my own posts, the Contemporaries typically had the System 1 or System 3 bridges...and this looks like a traditional Strat trem to me. The unstamped saddles would be consistent with MIJ Squier bridges of this period but not necessarily all inclusive and either way, that bridge with those pickups seems -really- odd. More over, if the neck was from a contemporary with a System trem, it should have some indication of a locking nut...but I'm not seeing any here.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia info on contemporary Strats;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fender_Con ... ster_Japan

Based on that, I would probably rule this out as being a Contemporary...unfortunately it does leave the question of what it actually is. I'm certainly no expert on these...hopefully someone with a great deal more experience will be able to drop some more info here for ya but my impulse is that perhaps this instrument is maybe a "mutt"? Squier neck and perhaps even a Squier bridge on an unknown body? While it's hard to tell from these pics it looks as though the strings aren't properly aligned with the bridge pickup...this could be an indication of a body swap. Have you pulled the neck to see if there are any stamps in the neck pocket?

Ok...sorry if that's not much help...I know I'm just pointing out the obvious there. Which ever way this turns out, she certainly looks like she needs some serious TLC. Interesting mystery though...I'll be following this one to see if anyone comes up with anything else (I just love a good mystery!).

Good Luck,
Jim
