There really isn't an expiration date on a guitar. If you take good care of it it could last forever.
If you beat on it , not long.
Welcome to the forums, and good luck with your guitar!

a guy on here posted a picture of himself playing a Squier he had for 20 years, so if you take care of it it'll last a long time. They are quality instruments.

Boy, that's like asking how long a Toyota will last. Some of the first Squires made are still playing just fine and some have a problem right out of the box. But that goes for any guitar no matter where it's made. If you take care of it. Keep it clean and dry. They can virtually last a lifetime. Humidity is tough on electronics. Lack of it is tough on wood. drastic changes in it is the worse culprit. Many people on this forum are Proud owners of old squires and the new ones seem to be made very well overall. 8)

Well Squiers have only made in china for maybe the last 15 years or so. I have a 1994 China made bullet and it is still kicking and I once owned an '83 MIJ squier. There seems to be a myth that if you buy a cheaper guitar it will fall apart in a couple of year, which is definitely not the case. If you take care of the instrument it should last as long as you do, if not longer.

Guitars are like anything. If you treat it nicely and take care of it, more than likely it should last you a long time. If you treat it like crap and don't take care of it, it may or may not...

As everyone else has said, it really depends on how you take care of it...if you're going to pull a Hendrix and set it on fire or you're planning on doing a Townsend and smashing your amp with it...chances are it's not going to last too long at all, LOL!!!

That said, I own guitars that are of a much lower quality than the new Squiers and they're still around. In fact I still have my old Memphis LP copy...she was my first "real" electric. I got her brand new for $100 back when I was around 17...I'm 44 now so that makes her...gads...27 years old. She certainly bears many scars from my youth...lots of dings and chips to be sure of. Over the years I have had to replace the switch and redo the wiring a couple of times and many years ago I put some real Gibby LP tuners on her (I -HATE- those cheapy chrome covered tuners). Certainly the chrome is shot to hell...pretty badly pitted to be sure. BUT...she still plays...and she plays well.

That said, the newer Squiers that are out there now...and many of the older ones...are typically of a much better quality than some of the cheap brands such as Memphis were just 20 or 30 years ago...especially the Standards and Deluxe models. I have an '08 CIC Standard "Special" that is really one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen (I actually like the finish over the genuine Fender Strats with a similar finish) and she plays like a dream. I also have an '85 Squier MIJ...she's just as sweet as a Strat can be.

Now please keep in mind that things can and do wear out over the course of time. I recently had an '04 Squier Standard with the 2 point trem and where the bridge rocks on the posts, it was certainly starting to wear a bit. Certainly tuners can and do wear out over time as well. Frets will certainly wear on -ANY- guitar that gets played a lot. Electronics can get dusty and start to crackle....etc., etc., etc.. This is all part of normal wear and tear. Also as they say, sometimes $@!& happens. I've seen a couple of posts recently where wood has split around the bridge on two Squiers. Doesn't mean the line of instruments as a whole is bad though...just a bad piece of wood worked it's way in to the assembly line (and since I haven't met either person in person, it's possible this could be the result of abuse as well). Considering how many of these models are out there though, it's not something to worry about at all.

The truth of the matter is that most guitars that have serious issues are usually that way due to abuse or neglect. Yea...I've seen one or two badly twisted necks in my day (although never on a Squier or a Fender)...as I said above, sometimes they just get a bad piece of wood...it happens. That said, most of the damage that I have ever seen has been a direct result of...err...shall we say "human intervention". Broken truss rods because someone didn't know how to adjust one properly...broken headstocks or cracked bodies because the guitar was dropped...over-bowed necks because no one bothered to make periodic adjustments...you get the idea. I have one neck where I had to repair the headstock because someone "supposedly" knocked it off a stand. I also recently refinished a Yamaha Motion B bass that was in a FIRE...-not- something you can blame on brand or model. I also refinished a Strat body earlier this year...someone had tried to refinish it before hand and had NO CLUE how to use lacquer! I have yet another bass down there that was in a basement flood...you can't really blame the manufacturer for someone trying to use it as a canoe paddle! LOL!!! Seriously...with only one or two very rare exceptions, any guitar I've ever seen that wasn't playable...or that couldn't be made playable...was the result of some idiot and NOT the result of a given brand name or model.

Either way, in regards to issues of longevity, if my 27 year old $100 Memphis can still rock out, there's no reason the new Squiers shouldn't be around for a -very- long time to come. Take good care of it and it'll take good care of you.

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim
