Or post the beginning of the serial number...The letters in front of the number is a good indicator. IC is from Indonesia....I forgot the other prefixes, but there is a thread, or several, about Squier Serial numbers on this forum, you may just have to search a few pages back...

Perhaps we need to suggest to a Moderator/Administrator to make a Sticky out of one of those threads so it will be on the top of the first page all the time...

it might sound wird but the serial number has no letters. it has only 6 numbers. i bought it used in 1997 and the person who sold it to me, told me it was like 40 years old. it sounds beautifull. i have no words to express it.
it sais is made un u.s.a.
there must be a way to find it out.

thaks for the answers. :)

Hi eestrellanegraa, and welcome to the forum. Something's not right. According to the Squier article on Wikipedia, the first guitars bearing the name Squier were made until 1982.

Therefore: If it's a Squier, it's not 40 years old. If it's 40 years old, it's not a Squier.

We need pictures, please. Thanks! 8)

Alrighty...first and foremost, not to sound harsh or anything but any time I see something along the lines of "the person who sold it to me said...", I have to apply a GREAT deal of skepticism. I don't wish to be rude but very simply people lie, people misrepresent the facts, people exaggerate and sometimes people simply don't even know what they are talking about. This especially applied when someone is selling something like a guitar and trying to make a few bucks.

Sooooo...that said, I agree with the general consensus here in that some pictures are going to be needed in order to provide you with -any- serious information on what you may have. I would suggest some decent, clear pictures of the headstock (front and back), the body (front and back) full lenth shots (front and back) and any specific identifying marks including the serial number. If it's at all possible I would also suggest taking the neck and pickguard off and taking nice close up pictures of the neck heal, the neck pocket in the body, the pickups cavities, the pickups and the controls. The more clear pictures you can provide, the more information we can obtain to help you with.

One note: if you do suspect that this instrument is in fact 40 years old (which should be fairly evident), do please be very careful if you disassemble it...old parts can and do become brittle and you don't want to accidentally break anything or destroy any identifying marks (such as hand written dates) on the instrument.

Peace,
Jim

it would be funny if it was an 'Esquire' and legit.

rather than someone doing a little chain yanking.
