thanks for the replys. some were a bit impractical but some may help though i'd have to remove the pick guard and put a shield under it but if it works i'll do it. it is plastic and must be incontact with a wire from the pick up as the pick up itself doesn't react to my fingers just the plastic pick guard. weird

Some pickguards just attract static. While the grounding thing may be good, I have heard of people having putting a fabric softener sheet under the pickguard since they reduce static cling...you'll have to change the sheet every once in awhile probably...but I would try this first since it is simple to do, if you have not already tried this.
