what does HSS and SSS setup mean? I see these terms but don't know what they actually mean.

Thanks

HSS =Humbucker in the bridge and Single coils in the middle and neck position.

SSS= All single coil pickups

It's telling you how your pick-ups are set in you guitar.HSS is HUMBUCKER,SINGLE,SINGLE. Starting with the HUMBUCKER closest to the bridge. Then a SINGLE pick-up in the center.And then a SINGLE pick-up closest to the neck. SSS are all going to be SINGLE,SINGLE,SINGLE type pick up's from the bridge,center and to the neck.Humbucking pick-ups contain two coils insted of one.Each coil has it's own set of pole pieces which are in contact with a single,central magnet.This means that,in effect, the humbucker can also be considered as though it were two seprate pick-ups in one body.The fact that these two coils are wired in siries and out of phase with one another means that mains hum or background "noise" picked up by the coils-not by the magnets-is "cancelled out".HUMBUCKERS have a characteristcally warmer tone than single-coil pick ups.Single coil pick-ups are just that.They have a "single coil".Remember pick-up coils differ from one type to another in the guage of wire used and the number of turns or windings on them.So an SSH WOULD BE "SINGLE,SINGLE, HUMBUCKER.With the Humbucker being closest to the neck.
I am sure somebody will have much more information for you than from me.But I gave it a shot and hope I was of some help to you.
Crazyhorse.

Thank you! I'm trying to sift through the terminology, but I'm getting a good education here. So, an HSS has a warmer sound than a SSS? I'm guessing my Squier might have an SSS then?

What exactly is a humbucker and what does it look like? :oops: Never had electric so not sure what it is.

An HSS looks like this. Note the bridge pickup looks like two single coil pickups put side by side and not put on an angle.

Ah now visuals make sense. THANKS!!!!

Mine are on an angle so I must have an SSS (no Humbucker)?

This is what mine looks like. It's a clickable picture but it's real blurry.

Yes that is a SSS configuration. Nice looking guitar. Yes pic is a little blurry. That is essentially what my CV 60 looked like before I changed the Pickguard and accessaries.
