I have a 20th Anniversary Squier Bullet, It is very light so I was wanting to find out what it is made of. It says it was made in Indonesia and I think it must have been made in 2002 if it is a 20th Anniversary. The s/n is ic020815503 if you can, let me know what the neck and body is made out of.

Thank's

I orderded my 20th anniversary Standerd Series Strat in 2002. The S/N starts with IC02 like your own. MF advertised it as solid Alder. The Squier Strat is noticeably lighter than my MIM Fender Strat. The Mexican has a solid color finish while the Indonesian has a clear sunburst finish. This may be creating the weight difference?

I discoverd that most models (Squier, LTD, Ibenez and such) made in or near the Asian region are mostly Agathis or Basswood. Agathis trees grow in the Southern Pacific island areas, while Basswood grows throu out the Asian continent. Both woods are classified as 'light woods'. Basswood being considered the lightest of the two! The manufacturer saves money by using local woods, plus the two are easier for cutting, shaping and routing. Both of these woods grains are claimed to be good for only solid finishes and not clear ones like my own.

Having that you say your Bullet is "very light" might suggest that it is made of Basswood? I would speculate that your neck is the typical maple wood, due to that is what seems to be the most popular produced necks. I admit that this is a best guess on my part! I hope this helps you out and goodluck on your research!!!

Thank you that does help. The neck seems to bend out of tune easy when I play it, so I put it in open E and started using it for playing slide. That way I don't push it out of tune, might have to rise the action now. And yes it is grey? with a black pickgaurd and has one double coil pickup and one knob only, Volume.

The lightness may be due to the wood that is used, but also keep in mind that some of the Squier bodies may not be as thick as their Fender counterparts. I know that the Affinity Series Strats and Teles have bodies that are not as thick as their Squier Standard "big brothers" or their Fender "relatives."
