Don't really know how long they were in production, but the 2004 Frontline catalogue featured Squier Deluxe Series Strats, FMT and QMT.

Yes, this was a real Squier model. I tried to get a QMT in early 2008, but they were all gone by then. I believe this is a Foto Flame rather than a real wood finish. Still looks cool though. 8)

can you tell me the difference between foto flame and real wood finish? Is this in line with a standard stratocaster? Asking price look ok? I ran into issues from the seller with the Squier I was going to get so i am back to searching. thanks.

Pricing is in line for what it is, these were supposed to be a step up ( Looks wise) than the Standard. Basically a more flashy Standard. Foto-Flame is basically a picture of a Highly Figured, or quilted top in this case, laid over the solid wood underneath, kind of like a veneer. If this was an actual quilted or flamed top it would be a much more expensive guitar

hey Yogi thanks for the feeback. I think i'll try to make him a best offer for this one and see if he bites. I want to grab a Squier to play with and add some upgrades to since I can't currently afford a Fender Strat.

Yep, Yogi nailed it. Foto Flame guitars generally look very nice. In fact, most people can't tell them from the real thing. When I was trying to buy one of these new in 2008, I think they were going for about $250. So this price seems very reasonable to me. 8)

Don't kill me if I'm wrong but Fender was pretty proud of the process and advertised it as such. If it is marketed as a FMT I would say it is a veneer Flame top. They usally are not as beautiful as a Foto-Flame.

well the listing says FMT but I dont know how to prove that out, I asked for some more pics so if i get them i will post them for yall to check out. thanks for the info IdahoRed, it didn't look like a real flametop to me, the color just looked duller than most flame tops I have seen but I can't be sure

Hmm. I certainly won't kill you because I can't say with any confidence that you are wrong. The only real way to know would be to compare two of them side-by-side. Unfortunately, I've never actually seen even one.

Does anyone have a Squier FMT or QMT Strat? If so, perhaps you could post clear, detailed pictures of the body.

so my question is:

what is the better deal based on the looks / listing alone.

the FMT is $149 + $23 ship...but best offers are also accepted

or http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=28471

this gold standard strat at 120 + 20 shipping = 140 total

let me know cause I'll have to move fast. Anyone know if this shoreline gold in the standard is a rare or discontinued color? there is another one listred for $400 on ebay right now saying it is rare.

I'd say they're equal. Go with whichever one you like better. Just my $.02 on the matter. 8)

Although it is a bit rare, that guy is smoking crack if thinks he'll get that much for a Modern era Squier. Unless its MIJ he won't get what he is asking. BTW that things has been sitting there for atleast a month, unsold

When I looked at the shoreline gold pic's I noticed what looked like a gouge or defect in the fretboard on the first fret It does not look like normal wear the wear on the 2nd fret looks a little heavy The FMT has a satin finish on the headstock which is a newer finish. I would make the guy an offer around 120-125 and maybe he'll bite or make you a good counteroffer. I went back and forth with a guy on a set of vintage Fender tele pickups. He didn't take my first offer made a conteroffer and I countered back and He took it. Yea for me. Good Luck
