How do you read the s/n of a Squire Srat? I picked up my 2nd at a flea market yesterday was just wondering how to figure out what year it was built and where. There is no country of origin markings that I can see.

Hi Gundawg. Ask and ye shall receive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squier#Serial_number_tracing

Here's mine for reference:

Even if it didn't say Crafted in Indonesia, the serial IC 071015503 tells us it was made at the Cor-Tek (Cort) factory in Indonesia in 2007.

Good luck! 8)

Hmm. That CAE serial number doesn't conform to the information on that Wikipedia page. I did a little looking online, and it looks like a lot of people have questions about that same series. You might consider posting some pictures of the headstock (front and back) and serial number for people here to take a look. Somebody should be able to figure it out for you. 8)

No, it's a 2007 Squier Standard Stratocaster. Here's the front:

I think the Vintage Modified models have the smaller headstock.

According to the same Wikipedia article I cited above, the VM series is made in India. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that statement.
