Can anyone comment on the tonal/performance characteristics of Duncan-designed single-coils on some of the deluxe strats?

I've tried them in the store, but they're never adjusted properly so I'm not really sure whether I'll find them workable.

I had another brand of guitar that had Duncan-Designed pickups in it. They were made in Korea by another manufacturer using Duncan specs thus the name Duncan-Designed.

Pretty much the Seymour Duncan specs for pickups, but they just can't call them Seymour Duncan since they are made overseas, and not made directly by Seymour Duncan.

Context and perspective...

I've a VM Jazzmaster with 'Duncan designed' pickups. It sounds great, through my setup.

It depends on what they're screwed to, what they're outputting through. On the materials that they're on, they do a great job. If you swapped them for Custom Shop pickups, I doubt you'd hear an improvement. If they were screwed to a Custom shop guitar, they'd sound better, then you swapped them to Custom Shop pickup you'd notice a big difference.

If you're playing through a good amp with a decent speaker, then again, they are going to sound great (if you know how to set the amp up).
Through a cheap amp with a small speaker, it sounds... average, nothing special.

Compared to a Seymour Duncan made pickup, the specs won't be as tight, they won't be using the same quality wire, magnets etc and they aren't being made by experienced pickup experts.

They certainly aren't bad pickups, but don't be under any illusions that they are up there with the classics.

The biggset difference is going to be the inconsistancy due to mass production and lower quality control. Some will be great and some so so.
