I have a Squier Stratocaster I recently have this notion to maybe upgrade it seeing how it plays well. Has a good feel to it and heck I just like it. This is the problem I dont know enough about the guitar itself to know what kind of squier it is. How can I tell if it is a Standard ? What Kind of Pick ups it has already. What I do know for sure is it was MIJ at the Fujigen Plant between 1984 to 1987.
Thanks in Advance

Wow, I was just looking on here for the same information!! I have a similar strat, same time frame, same plant (have a Fender P-Bass from the same plant, same time as well).

My question about this strat is that it has a 8 hole pickguard.

Will the Fender '57 RI 8 hole fit, same hole pattern?

Thanks if someone can help.

My 1987 Squire Stratocaster MIJ has an E series serial number, which places it from 1984-87. I believe at that time, there was only the Standard series (no Affinity or Bullet etc.). With the 8 hole pickguard and heel adjust truss rod, it seems to be a 1962 Reissue model, tho I am not sure about that. The specs are vintage 1960s tho.ImageImage
Those Fender Japan guitars are very nice, maybe the nicest Strats Squire made, and right up there with the Pro Tone series from Korea as far as quality and playability. The mid 1980s Squires were made to the same standards as Fender products due to the fact that they were produced in the same factory.

I have a Mid 80's Squire Strat, I believe 1987. Mine is a MIJ with the serial number starting with JV.. and it reads "Made in Japan" on the head.

I had it apart in a box for several years.. but put it back together yesterday and still sound fantastic! ... its well used and slightly abused but still a midrange great guitar.

You have a JV Strat! I'd hold on to that one if I were you mate. They have a top reputation for build quality and fetch massive money on ebay even if they have seen a lot of use (which is the point of a guitar anyway).
