Hello guys!!

I have a Squier Affinity, I want to change his original pickups to Fender Texas Special.

Do you change the pots of yours?

Reading in specifications of Squier Affinity, all three are of 500K, take a look of specifications Fender Mark Knopfler, with Texas Special pickups, all three pots re of 250K.

any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Yes, Change the pots. The squier comes with cheap mini-pots. Put in full size 250k pots with the new pickups. Pots and caps make a noticeable difference in tone and aren't really expensive

Cool, I put Texas Specials in my Affinity Strat and it sounds like a completely different guitar (in a very good way). :D And yes, I did change the pots.

FENDER POTI 250 K NO LOAD
Fender 250K no-load pot - original Fender 250K split-shaft TONE pot (NOT ! VOLUME). True-Bypass between position 9 und 10.

or this ones - Solid shat or split?

Pot 250K
As used for volume and tone. Choose split or solid shaft.
Manufactured by C.T.S. Solid shaft is for knobs with set screw. Split shaft is for push on knobs.
SKU: 250k pot

Did you change it by yourself? easy or difficult?

any suggestions?

So sorry about questions.

thks

No problem, we don't mind answering questions. I learned to play guitar by going to message boards and asking things like "What's an F Chord?".

For Strat knobs, split shaft should work. As far what exactly to get, or how easy it was, I don't know. I had my tech install them for me.

Oh, and I'd suggest that you wire your bridge pickup to one of the tone pots. I have my neck and middle wired to the first tone pot and the bridge on the second. I use the tone control for the bridge pickup more than I do for the neck or middle. It's very useful. I never played with my bridge pickup before, but now I can use it more often.

I changed my volume pot and a pickup on one of my guitars. I too asked many many questions. The best advise I got was to take pictures of the orginal wiring and mimic it on the new pot.

Easy?...I was sweating bullets doing it myself. I was afraid I was going to burn the pot up with the soldering iron. I recommend practicing joining wire to metal and get it down before doing it on your guitar. In the end I was impressed that I was able to do it myself and it was a great learning experience, not to mention I saved myself a lot of money.

Thank you again for your answers

This is an aswer of a guy that he did the same thing. He is an amazing player, take a look.
http://www.youtube.com/user/herrwizo

"I didn't change pots. It he wants, he can, though. Not much difference, IMO. The biggest issue is the pickup height adjustment - they have to be properly set up (litle lower than regular pickups, but that varies with guitar) or else they can be too harsh. With some fine tuning sound can match MK strat 90%. The only thing where MK strat still sounds better is it has more mids and less treble and bass. But that's because of wood. And not much difference with a good amp and good playing style."

Anybody can tell me something about the pickup height adjusment?

Regards

This quote was taken from CAFeathers, I use this method and it's great.

"This subject has been coming up a lot lately. I did a search, then a copy and paste and started a new thread.

I use the Nickel Method as a starting point. You will need 2 nickels and a phillips screw driver (I use a t-bar handled one).
Fret the E string at the last fret, then stack the 2 nickels on top of the pole piece for that string. Adjust that side of the pickup up or down until the 2 nickels touch the bottom of the string. Do the same for all the pickups.
Then fret the e string at the last fret. This time use only 1 nickel on top of the pole piece and adjust that side of the pickup up or down until the nickel just touches the bottom of the string.

That is the starting point.

Put your amp on a clean medium volume setting, turn the guitar all the way up. Select one pickup. Then strike an open e and an open E. Both pickups should have the same volume level. If not adjust the weaker side up until it does. Repeat with all pickups.

From that point any adjustments for more volume should be made with the same amount of turns on the screws on both sides. So if you make 2 1/2 turns on the bass (E) side you will make 2 1/2 turns on the treble (e) side.

Remember that the closer the pickup to the strings the more volume and gain you will get, but you will get less sustain. "

I wish I could find the orginal post...
