Maybe you're looking at the wrong guitars, as SQUIERS  are great.

In fact, Squier quality is amazing these days...in my opinion, from my experiences, a properly set up Squier Standard Series (and other lines above the Standards, like the Vintage Modified and Deluxe Series) guitar is just as good as any MIM Fender I have played. So you may not have to get several to make one super guitar. Check out the Squier website, Squierguitars.com , and look into the Vintage Modified series...the website will also have spec sheets for most of the Squiers...Neck scale is 25.5 inches...Radius may vary according to series...Also, if you are planning to swap necks or something, keep in mind that Squiers are currently produced in Indonesia, China, and India, and the neck pocket dimensions may vary a little bit. I'd still say look into the Vintage Modified series, as they are getting lots of positive reviews everywhere, and you may just need to buy one to have a "one super guitar", as I have 7 Squiers that are all super guitars...

Just save up and get one guitar, whether is Squier or not...The money you will spend trying to get several guitars to make one good one will end up being about the same (or cost more) than if you just saved your money, and bought something that has everything you are looking for...

Unless you just want to be able to say you made a "super guitar", cause of course that will make everyone instantly think you are cool...

But thats just my thoughts on it, have fun with whatever you do...

The classic vibe 50's looks cheap even in the photos though!

How does the Classic Vibe look Cheap? Looks like almost exactly like a more expensive Fender Classic. Here is mine next to my JM strat:

The Squier Classic Vibe is the best deal out there unless you can score an 80s Japanese or Korean Squier

Owned my Squier Classic Vibe 50s Tele since December 2008. It's my favorite guitar - superb playability, quality, fit n' finish, and tone. It's as good (and, for me, better) than a lot of American Fenders I've owned, including my AV '52 RI Tele and American Fat Tele. To each his/her own, but you should really check one out and see for yourself.

Can you tell how many pieces of wood are used in the body? Is the pickguard flat to the body, or is it all warped up?

What is the bridge hardware like? Vintage style?

Quality action? Was the nut cut right? Etc. Is there overspray of the tint onto the frets?

I do think these are great deals.

This is my second CV 50s ( The first I sold because I was low on cash and had to keep the lights on)

The first one was a 2 piece body, the one I have now is a 3 piece. They seem to be 2-3 piece bodies, no more no less.

The pickguard is not warped, but it is a 1-ply beveled pickguard not the 50s correct flat guard.

The bridge hardware is import spaced with bent, vintage style saddles. It comes with a zinc block, but I got a steel block from GFS for $20.

The action straight out of the box on both guitars was excellent. Nice and low with no buzz, just right. Fretwork was also superb, no problems here. Neck is one of the best features. Didn't notice in overspray on the frets, if there is you'd have to get a magnifiying glass to see it. There is a great attention to detail on these. I've owned 3 ( 2 CV 50s and a 60s) and have played probably close to 10. Of the those I've only played one that didn't feel right, but a setup was all it needed. Most of these are ready to go out of the box. The one I have now, the only mod I did was change out the block, and I don't even notice a difference with that. These things sound amazing

I'd have to say that I tried out a CV 60s Sunburst, and it really felt and sounded solid. The guitar felt pretty damn good to me. I was impressed by it.

I recommend trying out the Squier J5 Signature Telecaster. I picked one up for about $380 and it feels and plays about as nicely as my Fender Highway One Tele. And it looks much nicer. I can't recommend it enough.

Classic vibe 50's and 60's look pretty promising for modifying and maybe being a just a great cheap guitar...

I am a big fan of the CV (particularly the '60s model). Here is a deal ... I paid $240 for a VM Thinline the day after last Thanksgiving. With $50 for some used MIA Tele Std pickups, it has cost less than three hundred ... and it is a great little guitar ...
