Hi all, I'm Stevie from Glasgow. I'm a metal fan, so I mainly play Jackson guitars, although I have an old Marlin strat copy I modded a bit and a lovely Epi Black Beauty. I like to upgrade my guitars normally with various Seymour Duncan pickups although I have others too.

I had a DiMarzio Super Distortion lying around, and nothing to put it in, so decided to try and make a "Dave Murray" strat copy as cheap as possible, while still making a playable, nice guitar.
So here it is! I bought a Squier Affinity for £30, here it is with my Jackson DK2M

fitted the Super Distortion in the bridge, a neck DiMarzio PAF, a Fender USA strat middle single coil, bought some chrome pup rings, swapped the neck from another Squier I sold to a pal years ago, and voila! It's a great sounding guitar and I'm really having a great time with it considering how little it cost me!

My daughter's getting the Marlin when she's old enough - I got her name made into a decal for the headstock and painted it all pink (I originally fitted Seymour Duncan and Fender pickups with coil split and stuff, but the guitar's not good enough for all that so it's now got Squier pickups in it).

Anyone ever read Ray Bradbury's "Something Wicked This Way Comes"? This pic reminds me of that.

I like it!! I've never seen anyone put chrome rings on a Squier before, but I like it! Very cool. I'm a freak for doing stuff like that. I have Stagemaster that I bought where someone did a hideous job at routing for a EVH D-Tuna. One of the worst looking devices made for guitar. So I did this to it:

Image

First I put a plate for a single pickup on it, and installed a Dimarzio HS-3 in the bridge pos. I dummied the top knob and wired only the bottom 2, then added a 2-position switch for bridge only, or bridge and neck pickup. I only use it switched with the Super Distortion in the neck. Awesome tone dude!! Then I took a spare Squier Black bridge-plate and covered up the bad routing job. Next I have to find something to put on the plate. I want some kind of emblem of some sort, but I haven't figured out what just yet.

Nice pics man. I love the creativity.

What a coincidence! I also set out to build my own Dave Murray sig strat from Squier bits and pieces and I've just finished it.

It was a learning experience but good fun.
