Hey Ya'll,
Just a quick question for all you Squier aficionados out there...anyone know where I can get a 3 ply pickguard for an '08 Squire Bullet...without having to do a tracing of the old one? This is just an aesthetic thing, but I really just don't like the look of those one ply pickguards. I know that an MIM/Am Std guard won't fit...at least not without some modification (which I really don't feel like doing for this guitar). I've done a search on Google but I only came up with a couple of companies who will custom cut them for you based on a tracing of the original pickguard.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Jim

I have a 2002 Squier Affinity Strat that I put a factory Fender Stratocaster white pearloid pickguard on with no new holes having to be drilled at all. It fits perfectly.

Hhmmm. I actually tried the one I that had came on my Squire Standard (the "mint green" one that I replaced) just to see if it would fit and it didn't. I -know- the green one is a standard size because I bought a white Fender replacement for it and that fit like a glove. I'm guessing that maybe there's a bit of inconsistency from Bullet to Bullet here....

Thanks anyways,
Jim

The problem isn't that they won't fit, it's a question of when and where the parts were made. Since the squire has changed hands so many times the parts have been made by so many different companies under so many specs. Your best bet is to try someone who can make the pickguard, but that requires the tracing or mailing the pickguard to them. I've put a fender standard pickguard on my squire standard 100% drop in match, but on my affinity the holes don't line up. You could always pull the good ol' fill and drill.

hey Caboose,
Thanks for the comments, I'm grateful. Yes, my Squier Standard is the same way...a regular Fender pickguard fit with no problem. The thing about this Bullet is simply that I really don't want to put a lot of work in to it. I sort of bought the guitar as an impulse thing...I had been working on a lot of SRV at the time and I was really getting sick of re-tuning every time I sat down to practice (or practice something else). I had a few bucks left over from an insurance settlement so I went in to Guitar Center looking for a way to spend it. I picked up the Bullet so I could just tune it to E flat for practicing the SRV stuff. I was also thinking it would be nice to have something around the studio for others to "thump on" if they wanted...I don't really like other people touching my nicer instruments...I've had way too many accidents happen over the years. I guess that's just my round about rationalization for buying another Strat, LOL!

The funny thing about the pickguard is that it's such a small detail that it probably shouldn't bother me...but it does. Even from across the room I look at it and it just "makes me itch", LOL!!! I dunno why but I've just never liked the look of single ply pickguards...I know...I'm a freak 8)

That said, again I really don't want to go to too much trouble for this thing...it is what it is. For a $100 guitar it does actually play nice and all and she does actually sound pretty decent all things considered...can't really complain about that, but it's not like I'm going to put a lot of effort in to this one either. I'll probably change the tuning keys at some point but other than that and the pickguard, I don't really plan to do too much to her. If this were a nicer guitar, then yea...I'd go through the effort. I could sit down and trim a pickguard and re-drill the body so that it would fit properly and such, but this thing just really isn't worth the bother which is why I don't really want to take it off and trace it to send it it...if you get what I mean.

Anyways, again thanks for the comments.
Peace,
Jim

Not a problem Jim, I wouldn't be spending the money on my squire that i plan to if the guitar itself didn't carry alot of meaning for me. i also agree with not wanting to drop alot on a bullet.

let me know what you work out. I think a good ol' fill and drill would work, fixing your cosmetic worry for about 30 bucks.

Guitar Fetish is a great place for aftermarket upgrade parts for imprt guitars....you may have to re drill a couple holes and/or need to do some slight alteration to the neck pocket with a needle file to get it to fit, but this is somewhat normal when installing any sort of non-custom (from a tracing) aftermarket pickguard.
