I have a Fender Squire Strat American Standard HSS.
Need to clean up the pots, they are getting scratchy.
Should I use a standard pot or is there a specific pot for these controls?

Thanks
Jim

Have you tried to use electrical components cleaner yet. Before buying new stuff, I recommend seeing if you can get the old stuff back into action. Please read the following link...

http://www.customguitars.com/pots.html

Deox-it is the stuff used---i believe

Yes,use the cleaner on your pots and switches.I have learned from this forum allot about basic guitar maintenance...P.M.C.S.(Preventive Maintenance Checks & Service) your guitar on as much as a regular basis as you possibly can. After everytime you play, you should give your guitar a good wipe down to clean the oil that your hands have just put on the strings, body and neck.Everytime you change your strings you have an opportunity to get at other areas for cleaning.Like removing your pick guard and cleaning those noisy pots and switches.Play and beat the heck out of your guitar, just keep up on "basic maintenance".Do not be afraid to take a screwdriver to your guitar for a good "P.M.C.S."
