No idea.. Fender Bullets? Fuse wire?

Does it matter?

They're terrible, whatever they are. Remove them as soon as you buy your Squier and replace with Ernie Balls/D'Addarios/Dean Markleys/True Tones/New Tones or anything else really.

You'll be able to use Ernie Ball Super Slinkies (.009 - .042) without needing to do a new setup. If you change to another gauge like the Regular Slinkies (.010 - .046), you'll need to adjust your intonation. 8)

+1

I hear Ernie Balls and D'addarios are used by many, and are best sellers.

Personally, I use D'Addario EXl 120s, and they are fantastic. They last a long time and sound great when SLIGHTLY aged. A few weeks and they sound perfect.

I've always had luck with them (only used them twice though, but still, it is always good)! Convenient packaging too.

If you're willing to sacrifice some money spent on adjusting your guitar, it is worth the change to .010 gauge strings. Better tone and sustain, even though it might be a little harder to play. But that's great with me, as I don't need to play uber fast.

This is an excellent point. The heavier gauge might suit your alt rock very well.

I'm going to be the odd ball here (what else is new) as I just started switching my Strats back to Fender Bullets and Super 250s. I've been using GHS Boomers on most of my electrics for years...and still use them on my old Kramer but I seem to like the sound of the Fender strings a bit better on my Strats for the music that I do (mostly classic rock and blues).

Personally I think the the EB Slinky's are ok, but I've always had problems with their longevity...they just don't seem to last as long as GHS or Fender strings. D'Addarios are even worse when it comes to this...I've had D'Addarios actually rust after only one gig where it was rather humid! Also, there is something about the feel of D'Addarios that I just don't care for.

Quite honestly, I've been playing for over 25 years now and I've probably tried just about every brand out there at one point or other and I've always came back to GHS and Fender strings...they really just give me the most bang for the buck.

BTW...as far as the OP's original post, I think it depends on the model...a lot of people seem to lump all Squier models in to simply "Squier". I could be wrong here...you'd have to check the spec sheets to be sure (which are located on the Squier website) but I think most of the Squier models actually come with Super 250's....I'm pretty sure that's what my '08 Standard Special and my Bullet came with.

Ultimately, like the guitar and amp, strings are a very personal choice. There is no "right" or "wrong" here...it's all based on personal preference. When it comes to things like "tone" for example, you'll hear more of a difference based on your playing style and your amp and/or effects settings than you generally will from any given brand/model of strings (the exception being SIT's...those really sounded like crap to me). Personally I simply prefer something that will generally last a while...without having to fork out $20 a set for something such as Elixer's, LOL!!! I'm something of a lazy sh*t to begin with and with as many guitars as I own, I don't generally change strings on most of them until they really need it. Beyond that, the subtle nuances of guitars strings between brands are really just that...subtle nuances. Try a few brands, find something you like and then stick with them.

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim
