I have a new Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Thinline in Shoreline Gold.. really quite a pretty guitar. However, I think it is let down a little by the plain white pickguard. I see Fender has a '69 Telecaster Thinline in the Classic Series with a perl pickguard. These guitars both have the same pickup arrangement and the screw holes appear to be in the same locations. Can anyone tell me if the perl pickguard from the '69 Telecaster Thinline would fit the Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Thinline.. without any modifications.

Welcome to the Forum. If they look like a direct fit, then it probably is. Is there a way you can take your guitar to a guitar shop and ask them to see if it fits. (The pick guard does not have to be Pearloid, this is to see if it is a fit.) If it is you can either order one there or on-line and have it sent to your house.

I know on the CV 60 Strat the pickguard is a direct fit with the Fender Stratocaster. Maybe it is the same for the Telecaster.

I've found that most standard or above squier's pickguard interchange some people have had problems with lower grade strats. but I think tele's are pretty close. I had a link to a company that did nothing but pickguards but can't seem to find it now. do a google search I'm sure you'll find what your looking for. thinline pickguards are a little rare.

Any news on whether the VM Tele pickguard can be swapped for a Pearloid pickguard without new holes?

I asked Fender's Customer Care via email.
The response was "We actually never checked to see, but it should work; worse case scenario is the screw holes won’t line up".
Well that's the issue that wanted an answer on.
I'm a little disapointed in the minimal effort answer. I still want to get to the bottom of it. I'll keep y'all posted.

Yeah I have heard that their customer service is not the best. They should know answers to questions like that, but that's what happens when you have non music people trying to field questions at a musical instrument company. Would've killed them to put you on hold and call the service department to find out the answer?

As I mentioned I have a CV Series Strat, very similar to the VM series, and the holes were a direct line-up. Hopefully the same goes for the VM Tele.

Side by side visual comparison of the two units (Fender '69 Telecaster Thinline and Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Thinline) at the local Fender dealer reveals.. well.. as far as I can make out, the pickguards have idential screw hole locations.
I'm almost convinced.
Next check will be to order in and overlay the actual pickguard from the Fender '69 Telecaster Thinline. I fear the price will be my next hurdle (there is a chance price could scuttle the whole idea).
I did find an alternate supplier of an aftermarket version of the pearl pickguard for the '69 Telecaster Thinline, but from their photo there is one screw hole that is obviously out of position (to close to the neck by 1/8" or 3mm). Additionally the color layers are different - pearl/white/black as oposed to the Fender version that has pearl/black/white layers.

No change. Although I think it will look better with pearloid, I have concentrated on tone improvements rather than cosmetic... body cavity shielding and pickup upgrade to Fender Original Vintage.

Here's a link to a custom pickguard builder. You should be able to get exactly what you want.
