I have a 2007 limited edition butterscotch blonde Tele. When I switch from the neck pickup position to the middle position I hear a slight crackling sound coming from the speakers. When I switch from the middle position to the bridge pickup position I hear the same noise but sometimes the volume is low as if I turned the volume down and if I move the selector switch sideways the bridge pickup volume will increase. Do I just have a bad selector switch or possibly a bad ground? I checked the solder connections at the selector switch and the cable input jack and all are fine. This Tele was just purchased a few days ago for $100 and it being a Squier I know not to expect high quality (I own two other Squiers but they're Strats so I'm NOT knocking Squiers) so I know how weak switches,et.al. can be on Squiers. So help me out guys and girls! :(

You probably need to invest in a new switch. Try contact cleaner but it could mess up your paint. I don't think a new switch would set you back that much and the quality would be a great add on for many years of playing, especially if you are planning to get new pickups.

I suspect the problem is a dirty contact in the switch. A squirt of electronic contact cleaner should take care of it. use one that has a straw type nozzle and work the switch after you spray it. As far as pickups go choices are endless. I just picked up a new set of fender vintage pickups for 80 bucks, You can get an fender upgrade cts kit with pots, switch, and a capacitor for around 10 bucks on ebay. Just do a little research first to make sure you get pots to match your pickups. 250k for single coils 500k for humbuckers or 1meg for some p/u's like SCN's These spec's are general and will vary by p/u types or brands. A lot of people have been happy with GFS pickups/parts for inexpensive mod's 8)

The contact cleaner worked. :D I had to shoot it twice for it to totally stop the noise.
