I plan on buying a few guitars in the upcoming months and 2 of the ones I was particularly interested in are the CV 50 and 60. For the most part they get very good reviews but quite a few of the reviews are saying that the frets are cheap and are wearing out very fast and will need re-fretting soon. Has anyone who owns either of these guitars and plays alot, (by alot I mean hours everyday) noticed any unusual fret wear? I play the living hell out of the 2 Squiers I've got now and I use them fulltime, to the point where I sold off my other guitars and now just use the 2 Squiers exclusively. They work beautifully, get great tone and have not let me down in the 2 years I've been using them. Which is why I want to get a few more.

But now I'm reading about this fret wear thing and it has me worried.

I really do not have the time to go to GC and try out guitars, I play guitar for a living 6 days a week and honestly at the end of the day the last thing I feel like doing is going to a guitar store and trying out guitars. Not to mention I just hate guitar stores in general. The noise and 'usually' clueless sales people I find very annoying. I've been planning on getting the 2 CV 50 and 60's guitars, the Hot Rails Strat, and a Standard Deluxe Strat. But now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get 2 Hot Rails and 2 Deluxes. Will they hold up better you think?

Basically I don't want to get stuck with any clinkers because, like I said, I need them for work, if they won't do what I need them to do I'm kind of screwed.

Of the 2 Squiers I have one is a Made in the USA from 89/90 and the other is a Deluxe with a single humbucker in it. Both of these guitars work perfectly and I'm hoping to get close to the same level of quality out of the next 4 I get. I keep reading that the Squiers are being made better then the MIM Strats so I haven't really been looking at or considering them, should I be?

I really like the Squiers and I like the price points of the models, I'm a firm believer of "tone is in your hands" and I don't want to spend thousands on guitars. I've had more then my fair share stolen and abused and to spend a ton of money on guitars that I know there's a good chance they're going to be abused seems silly.

I appreciate any and all input that anyone can offer regarding these questions.

Thanks,

-Malikon-

p.s., I have no problems taking them apart or setting them up, so none of that is an issue. I just need the parts themselves to be pretty decent, the rest I can take care of easily enough.

Yeah, I have a CV60s. I love mine. I've just never heard anything about the frets wearing out prematurely. I've been playing mine constantly and it doesn't show any wear at all.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear, thanks. I've only read 2 different reviews where people were saying the frets are wearing out really fast. That's why I got concerned. Pretty much everything else on a guitar I can fix or build myself. But I've never done any fretwork and am a little intimidated to try.

(recalls the "I'll take a file to my guitar and have a scalloped neck" incident of 1988. **shudder**)

yeah, I don't mess with frets, lol.

I don't think I've ever been as excited to get new guitars as I am for these 4. Idk what happened. I've been playing since I was a kid about as tall as the guitar itself. They're exciting but I never felt 'Lust' for a guitar, they're just tools. It's like lusting for a paintbrush.

But man, lately for some reason I've got this horrible lust for Strats and just want more. Coming here probably doesn't help, lol. All the pics next to the message board always look so nice.

I have heard stories of pre-mature fret wear, but I have been playing mine heavily for months and haven't noticed anything. I also bought mine used too.

so maybe there was a bad batch? It's weird because I'm brutal to my guitars, I play them constantly and I've never had any problems with fret wear ever. So I was really saddened while researching the CV's to see people mention fret wear.

I always thought you had to play one guitar for like 20 years to really wear the frets down. Aren't they steel?

I have had my CV 60 for several months. I play it all the time. I have not notices any fret wear yet. I do a lot of bends and vibrato because I use it mainly for Blues (now). All I can say about this guitar is wow. The best money I spent since my Highway 1 Stratocaster purchace.
