[quote="TwoMartinMan"]Here's my MIM Squier. A very fine guitar.

OK, I just snagged one that looks a lot like yours from fleabay for $135. It's red with maple fretboard, made in Mexico, but has the all-black Fender decal instead of the Squier logo. Those in the know say that these first Mexican-made Squiers are almost as good as the MIM Fenders that followed. If that's true, then $135 for a near MIM-Fender should be a good deal.

I'll post photos and a review when I get it and check it out.

Cool deal. Looking forward to the photos. My Made in Korea Squier says "FENDER" on the headstock, but my Mexican Squier is as in the photos in my above posts. I think it's a great guitar. I first got the MIM Squier intending to swap the neck of it out with another Squier Affinity I have. Once I picked it up and saw how nice it was, I changed my mind. I think $135 is a very good price for the quality of the instrument. I was super lucky. I got mine from Craigslist, with a hard cae, and a Marshall amp for $100. I recently sold the amp for $35. So that makes my net outlay for the guitar, with hard case, a total of $65. Not bad. It had only been played about 5 times...not a scratch on it. Still had the plastic coating on the pickguard when I got it. Mine compares very favorably with my 2 MIM Fender Strats.

well, unfortunately, now i'm in a little bit of a dispute with the seller of the guitar, because he's telling me it's made in Indonesia, but the posted photos of the guitar show the headstock, and it clearly has a Mexican serial number. It also appears to say "Made In Mexico", but it's a little hard to tell for sure. It definitely doesn't say "Made In Indonesia". i won the item, but haven't paid for it yet. i'm hoping he's just confusing this guitar with an Indonesian one he sold earlier in the day.

Doesn't it stink when these eBay things don't turn out as planned? Hopefully this is just a case of miscommunication and that you get the correct guitar. Is it possible to talk to this seller by phone? You can report him to eBay for "bait and switch" tactics if he doesn't provide you with the correct item. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

ok, the seller finally was able to get to the guitar and check it out (he'd been at the hospital with his sick wife)....and it is indeed a MIM Fender/Squier. :)

I just paid for it, so I should receive it in a few days.

Actually, i have a 1995ish, fender "squier Series" Jazz bass.
And the build quality and sound is amazing for the price i paid.

EDIT: obviously this isn't a guitar, but it is along the topic of a Mexican squier.

I have 3 Squiers, an MIK Strat, an Affinity Tele, and a Jagmaster. I must say that they're a pretty good guitar for the money, I prefer gigging with these because if they get damaged or stolen, it's not a major chunk of money to replace.

Unfortunately there appears to be little info out there as far as spec details. Screamin Jay said the pups were ceramic and the trem block is significantly smaller. I'm really curious about the body wood. The neck on mine is really great and has darkened nicely over the past 16 years. It's a great backup to my Hwy1.

I recently got given an MIM Squier body from a friend of the family who is a luthier. He didn't know what it was other other than it was a stratocaster that had a messed up refinish; I didn't know much more until now. My neck heel has writing on it but it's completely obscured with crap so I couldn't identify it by the heel. All I had to go was the bridge, the style of routing and the fact it was a proper strat with no variation that might suggest it was a copy. After stripping it at my half-brother's house, where his dad has a workshop, we found it was a 4-piece body that had been sandwiched between two bits of Alder. The Alder was OK round the back but boring round the front so we power-sanded it's face off!
We found underneath a 4-piece solid maple body. After this discovery, I really wanted to know what it was. I've accumulated about a week of research and just today I came across a picture of a Mexican Squier. It matched the bridge exactly. So that's all it can be. A mexican Squier body made of maple. I figure it might've of been made from some large off-cuts from maple blanks; perhaps some neck blanks that got sawn/broken by accident and were too short to make a neck so they slapped them together to make a body. Once they glued it they slapped two bits of alder veneer on it and hoped they hadn't done something wrong. That or it's a FSR or Mexican Squiers have very, very, very little info available.

So perhaps your MIM Squier is maple.

I have a guitar that is my father-in-law's from Oklahoma. It's serial number is odd - S/NIC041029003. Too many numbers, made in Indonesia. What can you tell me about it's value. He has 4 guitars and this is the only one that is red. :?:

Yes, I think some Squier models are made in Mexico.
I live in Argentina. After playing an acoustic Yamaha for many years and after a long time of not playing an electric guitar I wanted to start again, and not spend much on it, but get a good sounding, well-finished guitar that allowed me to experiment different styles and practice.
I tried a vintage strat-looking Hagstrom which was very nice to play but needed calibration, also a new Yamaha Pacifica, and finally I asked to see a Squier Bullet Strat, and i found it looked very good, similar to the red one in the pictures posted here. I tried it and found it to be very versatile. I love the sound and it's very easy to play.
This one is made in China, and I'm very happy about my choice, according to my expectations.
Regards,
Daniel
