Any guitar is a good guitar so long as it is solid and DOES NOT hide your mistakes. If it feels comfortable and you can imagine holding it a year from now, then its all good.

To me...one of the best things about guitars...is getting another one...And then another one...And then another one...and then...
Crazyhorse.

Jagmasters are rad, enjoy it. What really helped when i first started playing was an acoustic. No distortion or reverb to hide behind. It will help with hand strength, hand positioning so your fingers are specifically where they need to be.

practicing on acoustic is great advice. I played (and practiced shredding) on an acoustic guitar for more then a year when I first started playing and when I made the jump to electric I couldn't believe how much easier it was to play.

I still practice on an acoustic most of the time for the same reason, it keeps my hands strong.

Who ever say it was an acoustic guitar?

The Jagmaster is a mix between a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster, which are both electrics.

I've actually never played one myself; only played a Mustang, which is pretty close in shape and design...

It is a VERY good idea to have a solid decent guitar to learn on. The Squier is definitely that. The Wal-Mart special? Not so much...
