I just thought I'd pass on something interesting and may be someone here will know more than me. I bought a Fender Squier from a man who got it from his neighbor who bought it new and was saving it for his son. There is no serial number on the peghead but it is marked "Squier by Fender" and "made in USA" and there is a serial number on the neckplate of 000722. It's 100% new, with the plastic still on the pickguard and in the original molded Fender case imprinted "Squier by Fender" on the side. There isn't a scratch, pickguard mark, or any blemish on it. I know this raises a bunch of questions and I'm interested in some opinions as to value. The best part is the original inspection tag is included and stamped "FEB 18 1988", along with various other stamps and initials. There is also a strap and a cord included. I know others have said the USA Squiers were only made from 89-90. The case is brand new and the guitar has a great neck, just like any qualty older USA strat. It was in a storage unit for years and I know it is all legitimate - he only wanted $295 for it and didn't know anything else about guitars. If you have info or just a comment, I'd love to hear from you. And, no, it's not for sale!

Hello,
I to have an American made Squire Stratocaster. there is not alot of info. out about these. Per Fender customer service these were made in the U.S. for a brief period of time in 1990 and again in 1994. Mine has a seriel number that starts wiht an E. Which is the start of a 1989 serial number. Fender stated that the overlapping of the numbers was not uncommon. My local music stores were not any help. They thought it was a fake.As for value, who knows. I have seen a few on e-bay in the $500.00 range. I will be keeping mine. And in my opinion it plays better than the Fender MIM and the Squier Standard I have.

Mine has no serial number anywhere but the neckplate and the inspection tag is definitely before 1989. One guitar tech told me it could be a prototype and not standard production. Has a great neck on it, and like I said 100% new and not a mark!

Sounds to me like it is a definate keeper.they may not ever do well in the vintage market ,but they are a great conversation piece and a good player.Have you tried to contact Fender on the way the serial number shows up? I e-mailed them concerning mine and they got back the next day and was very very helpful.

USA Squire's were made late 1988,maybe till 1991. The first issues were stamped with a serial on the neckplate. The rest had the serial on the headstock next to the "made in usa" and Fender logo. Some of the parts came from Ensenada,Mexico, what they could salvage after the fire. The other parts thereafter were mostly "AllParts" aftermarket pieces. Yes they are great guitars compared to China's first Squire's.Please remember....the metals, pickups, and woods used were under no circumstances high quality American parts.I have had several, usually changed the electronics, but the intonation was too much too suffer or tamper with,in otherwards, they are not quality Amerivan strats.I would rate them better than anything Korean for sure. If you want a cheap but greatly put together Strat.....consider buiying an Indonesian. They use really good parts on those, alnico pickups, alder bodies, good tuners, jumbo fretwires,so on. I've taken a few of those and put American Fender electronics and you really cannot tell the difference between that and an American standard.Hope this helps!

Just thought I'd chime in. I bought a 1989 USA Squire Strat about 3 years ago from the original owner. Paid top buck $400, but I was intrigued by the somewhat-rare USA build status. I own a 2005 USA American Standard Strat, and my "Squire" absolutely walks all over the MUCH more costly American Standard. The Squire is NOT a cheap P.O.S. Neck is friggin great, and tremelo works MUCH more smoothly and is more "musical" than the trem on the American Standard. I saw a post that said that this run of USA Squires uses cheap wood and cheap electronics. Maybe some do, but mine kicks butt and the fit/finish is outstanding. Basically looks/feels/plays like a quality USA but with the Squire decal on the headstock, almost as a joke.
Maybe mine is a freak of nature and possibly the exception to the norm, but I love the damned thing. As with any brand or model, you never know if it's a dog or a star until you try it out. Fender and Gibson both make outstanding instruments, but they also spit our some real dogs too. Kinda like a box of chocolates. You never know. Don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, because I know that I don't know it all. Just thought I'd pass along my own experience, just in case anyone is considering buying one of these USA models. If you bump into one, at least check it out. If it's as nice as mine, you'll love it. And no, mine isn't for sale.

USA Squiers were made for less than a year spanning 1989 and 1990
