Hello everyone, thank you for taking time to help me out!

I'm looking to sell my 1987 MIJ Stratocaster and I need your opinions on how I should price it. I don't want to get ripped off but I don't want to price it outrageously either.
There are a few things on it that I think will bring the value down:

The plates on the back are missing
There are cracks on the body where the neck is attached
On the body there are some dings and scuffs
And for some reason the guitar will not hold a tune..

Here are some pictures of the guitar and the things I was talking about.
I really appreciate your help!

Guitar
Body up close
Bottom pickups and hardware
Scratches on base
Top
Back of body (missing plates)
Crack 1
Crack 2
Crack 3

Thank you again!!

Check out e-bay.com or craigslist to look at comparable Squiers. I am not sure that anyone will want one that has that many cracks around the neck pocket. That could be one of the sources why it does not hold a tune very well. If it was me I would say $80, but I am not sure you will get even that for it (sorry). Best of luck.

That is about how much I figured. 80 would be better then I thought! I was planning on just selling it for 25 to get it out of the way haha. Yeah Im cursing my dad for taking such bad care of it. How much do you think it would cost to fix?

Looking at the pics, I'm not so sure the cracks have much to do with anything. If they're just cracks in the finish, they can just be cracks in the lacquer due to expansion and contraction. Being that the guitar is white, it's only natural that the cracks will look worse than they really are. Unless you can see them physically spread apart with pressure ( for example. pushing backward on the neck) then it should be a non issue.

Either way, depending on the fret wear, $80 would be a good starting price. Problem is there would most likely be a shipping cost attached to push it to about $120, and in this economy there are many other guitars for sale on ebay for that price that people would probably rather have. If you start the bidding at $80 Free shipping, you might start getting bids on it.

Personally, if it were me, I'd sell it in parts. Somebody did some customizing to the guitar at some point. Hard to believe the toggle switch came stock along with one of the oddest string tensioner I think I've ever seen (even odder is the fact that I actually like it). And I can't say I've ever seen those black things on the top of the humbucker ring before. What are those for??

Pull the humbucker up and see if it says something on the bottom. It would be interesting to see if they're not stock pickups.

I just checked what you said about the cracks and they dont spread with pressure. about the other things you are talking about. I dont know what any of that stuff is. This was my dads guitar , he got it a long time ago from our neighbor, as a trade for our water heater.. What is a toggle switch and string tensioner? either way I'm glad you like it! and I looked up "humbucker" and I dont know what the black things are for.(well I don't know what IT is for in general. )
Shows how little I know about guitars...

Someone definitely did some aftermarket work to it. If you look in the "top" pic, that big metal block on the headstock most likely didn't come with the guitar (that's what I'm calling a string tensioner).

The toggle switch is the little switch by the bottom knob. Usually that's a coil-tap for the humbucker which is the big double pickup closest to the bridge. When you flip the switch for a coil-tap, it cuts half of the pickup off and turns it into a single pickup sound.

The neck pickup looks slightly different than the others and could be more of a custom pickup.

Maybe you should try taking it to a tech at a guitar store just to have him look it over and explain to you what the guitar has. If you're a beginner looking to play guitar, that guitar might be a good one to start with. The paint job is a little 80's and funky, but I can honestly say I've never seen one like that before. Nothing about it looks like it would be too much to fix from the pics. Too bad you don't live here in Vegas, I'd set it up for you myself.

If it's something you'd rather not deal with, I think Craigslist would be a better rout to go than ebay. Selling it on ebay would mean that you'd have to box it up and ship it which usually costs about $45 to ship.
