Hi.

I have a Squier, bought used from a friend, 50€ w/ Vox Pathfinder 10, a real steal. Everything works but I'm planning to change it to a HH Strat (cheaper and funnier than getting an Epi LP for ex.). Currently it has the basic 3 single coils.

So I'm gonna get a pickguard - but I'm not really sure will the Fender HH Standard guard fit. I just hope it is about the same size, I'm willing to drill some new screw holes.

But here's a question: does this solution need F-spaced humbuckers or standard sized ones?

Also, what pots to get? Totally confused about all this 250k and 500k - I need 2x Volumes and 1x Tone. (maybe coil taps on separate switches) Am I right if I buy 500k switches for volume and another 500k for the tone?

Thanks.

okay, for this project i think you just have to use the standard sized humbucker, no need to put the F spaced one. still, its up to your taste.

yup, just use 500k pots for the volumes and master tone. 500k pot gives a brighter, clearer sound, and it is very similar to LP sounds. 250k pot hovewer makes a fatter, quite thick tone, the one you can get by switching to position 2 and 4 on your 3 single coils strat.

Standard should be fine. Just remember that whatever you get, you still might have to drill some holes for the new pickguard. But it's not a big deal. Standars Squier bridges have a string spacing that's slightly narrower than Fender Strat bridges, so F-Spacing really isn't necessary. Regular spacing works very well.

I highly recommend Guitar Fetish, I have an MIK Strat that I install a pre-wired S-S-S pickguard which greatly improved the sound. My next project is to find single coils for my Jagmaster. Be prepared to drill some new holes for mounting. These guitars sound great through my Sunn Concert Lead, 4-12 cabinet.
