I do not know about the CV 50, but my CV 60 blows the MIM Standard out of the water. Alnico V pickups in mine. Very hot, cleans are clean and take distortion very well. I have posted this on other threads...I'd put my stock CV 60 up against any MIM Standard Stock any day of the week.

Have you had a chance to do this yet? How did it do against the CV 50?

There is no doubt the CV and VM lines from Squier are great (I have one myself). But when put up against a Strat, I'd definitely take the Strat. With either one, though, I'd likely rip out the pickups.

Your right, but it depends on the model. To me a Stratocaster is a Stratocaster, whether it is a Squier or Fender. I would take a CV 60 or the VM over the Fender Standard (MIM), stock vs stock, in fact I did. I would not change anything on my CV 60, except for the strap buttons, all my guitars get strap locks. That is why I got it and not the Fender Standard, I knew I would be modifying the Fender Standard right off the bat (Pups and Pots).

I would however take any Fender American series over the the CV or VM series. I love the way my HWY 1 plays and feels. I definately love the American Deluxe. I'm not so much enthralled with the American Standard, but I would get one if the price was right.

I do not think I am a gear snob, but when I was out looking for a 2nd guitar as a back-up to my HWY 1, I played many many MIM Standards. I just could not find one worth the $499 USD price tag. I even looked at used ones, but where I live used Fender Strats go for $300 to $350 USD. And as I stated above, I did not want to immediately start doing modifications as soon as I bought it paying that kind of money.

Resale wise I know I will never get as much money for it (if I ever decided to sell the CV 60), but I tend to keep my guitars for a very long time, especially if I like them.

IMHO, dollar for dollar the CV 60 is worh the price when compared to the Fender (MIM) Standard.

I would take the Fender. But there is no doubt that taking the CV 60 makes sense for some people, too. No doubt. It is absolutely silly how good the Squier CV and VMs are considering their price. I paid $240 for mine this last black friday (day after Thanksgiving, '08 ). These guitars are an incredible bargain when you factor in how good they are. I agree with everything rkreisher has said...

dear rkreisher! yes i did have a chance to compare the two and the mim sounds like caca de toro next to the cv 50s so i know the cv 60s would also blow it away..... in the process of installing a prewired pickgaurd with noiseless texas blues gfs pickups and pots into the mim hopefully breathing some life into it....thanks eddie will let you know soon

Have fun with the mod, I am sure the new Pups and Pots will breath new life in the MIM. This is why I love Stratocasters, easy to get the sound you want from them. I cannot guarantee the CV 60 would sound better against a non-stock MIM, overall a good investment on your part. Love to see pics once you are done.
