Out of curiosity, which of the instruments would you take?

Personally, I've only played the '60s. Way back, i didn't like the look. But now, it is starting to grow on me. I would imagine that the '50s get's a brighter sound because of the maple fretboard and slightly different electronics. Or maybe it's warmer; who am I to tell?

Also, which amp would you say brings out their colors?

I cannot vote as I have not played the CV 50. I just do not like maple necks. They wear and start to look dirty too quickly (5-10 years). I have a CV 60 and it is smoking hot. A nice Tube amp brings out the sound of any Stratocaster. I own a Roland Cube 30X and it sounds good through it.

I haven't had a chance to play a CV50's yet but I love my CV60's Strat.

Great guitars either way.

i played both two days ago and left the shop with a CV 50's strat. just couldnt put it down only thing i dont like is the scratchplate dont know why they put single ply on it and treble ply on the 60's one. 60's was nice but i wanted the stratocaster quack that you get on positions 2 and 4 on the strat tasty!! i play mine thru an orange tiny terror and it sounds sweet tubes all the way.

p.s. anybody know if fender pickguards will fit these guitars???

Funny, I prefer maple necks. I guess that's why they make both kinds! :)

Umm... the great majority have Maple necks.

Very few that don't.

+1

That's what I love about FMIC, the way they can create a guitar for just about anyone.

Probably because strats in the 50s had single ply pickguards :D ...

They will fit but the holes may not line up which is no problem if you have a dremel

I played them back to back and 60s, all the way. I went home with it that day.

Yeah, and I like the 8-hole pickguard but have only found single-ply as a replacement. Drilling more holes is easier than filling them, but under the pickguard - who would see the extra holes anyway? The other difference is the smaller headstock on the 50's, which I prefer. Obviously all of this has nothing to do with the comparative sound, but I'm a superficial kind of guy anyway.

The CV 50 has a smaller headstock than the CV 60? I did not know that.

No they are the same size. I have owned two CV 50s and one CV 60s and the headstocks were all the same size
