Hi guys, first time on here so bear with me. Finally managed to get myself an '87 Made in Japan Squire 8). Bit of an unusual one as it's a standard model shape i.e. 3 single coils, 5 way switch etc...but it has a Fender stamped (Floyd Rose style) bridge/Trem unit and a string clamp on the headstock which I haven't seen on a squire before, saying that dont think I've seen a Fender with one on either...!!! Searched the WWW and cant find any more info or spec's on it. Can anyone out there help and give a bit of info or background on it, i.e. standard model/special edition/rare etc... Cheers, JV

What you have is a Made in Japan - E series Contemporary Stratocaster manufactured between 1984 and 1987. The bridge you described is the S1 tremolo system that has the fine adjustment tuners and a Floyd Rose style clamp at the nut. The E series guitars came out after the Japanese JV and SQ Squiers. These are very fine guitars that were extremely well made and have a very good sound. These guitars are desirable but not rare and can still be picked up rather cheaply in the price range of $ 250 -$ 350, a tremendous value considering they are in the price range of the new Squiers.
