I'm going to pick up a black affinity series strat for a little project but have a few questions. My goal is to blacken the whole guitar. Id like a black 3 ply pickguard (black/white/black) and also black knobs and selector switch knobs, black pickup covers and I'll most likely just take the white plastic off the trem bar.

Here are my Q's...

1) I'm having a hard time finding a 3 ply black/white/black pickguard that is 8 hole vs. 11 online. Anyone know where I can find one? If I have one custom made, should I have the screw holes counter sunk?

2) Are the pickups on the affinity strat covered with a white cover that can be replaced with black covers or are they one piece where I will have to replace the whole pickup?
Thanks!!

You can drill holes for an eleven hole pickguard to fit. That's what I did on mine. It's not like it's an all original 1962 Strat or something, so you can mod it.

I wish I could help you on your question about the pickup covers, but since I replaced mine and have never tried to change the cover I don't know.

Thanks for the reply. I actually called Squier support today. They told me that there is no garantee that the poles will line up with the slots of the pickup cover. I think I'll take my chances. They're pretty cheap anyway.

I agree with texasguitarslinger. This is probably the easiest solution. The old holes will be covered up by the new pickguard.

As for the issue of black-on-black versus white-on-black, I think the pickups and pots should match the pickguard. But that's just my preference. Go with what you like, and you'll never be wrong. 8)

Go to guitarfetish.com. I purchased a pre-wired pickguard for a Squier II, I had to drill a few holes to mount, but the sound is a vast improvement. They use Alnico pickups, for a decent price.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and ordered what I need. For now, the pickups and the Whammy bar plastic will remain white. Everything else will be black. I'll post up some pics when I'm done. :D
