Does anyone own the "new" Jagmaster? You know, the one currently available? I know there are the older Jagmasters out there, i.e. the Vista Series.

I played one of the current models the other day at GC and liked it, but was hesitant to pull the trigger. I just haven't heard enough about them. I played it through a Blues Deluxe reissue like mine and really liked the way it sounded.

Any opinions (pro or con) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

The JagMaster tends to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the Squier line-up, as it often gets "no respect." I have one, and it started my Squier addiction, which ended 7 Squiers later...

i have a vista, and it's #$@*&!% awesome. the newer ones are weak, but with new pickups and a blocked trem, and probably new pots, it would definitely scream. the necks on the new ones are too chubby for my taste on a fender, but the vista is a true 24" shortscale & CIJ, so it just feelsbetter.

bottom line, they're fun as hell to play, because they feel like a jaguar, but sound like a les paul! IMO i would like to see a neck single coil and hum bridge with hard tail...

I second that, I picked up a '96 Squier Strat, then a Cyclone, then a Vista Super Sonic, then a Duo Sonic. I just won a Squier Strat VII on EPAY.
($145)
I love 'em, they are just the less traditional and Retro style that is probably the big thing for me. I wish Fender would do some more "odd-ball" designs.

I purchased one from GC in Feb. '08 and I must say it is a pretty nice guitar for the price, didn't need any setup, but take it easy on the trem bar. I was toying with the idea of putting in some single coil pups, but not sure what to use. Anyone have any ideas?

I got one in Dec 2008. I really like it. It feels good and sounds good. I don't know why people don't like the pick ups. I have no problem with them. Its the best bang for your buck. If I play it and switch to my MIA strat, the strat feels more solid but the Jag is still a great guitar.

I think it's a pretty solid guitar, don't own one personally but have played one a few times and have even seen one of the guitarists of one my favorite bands use one at a show (while the other guitarist used a Vintage Modified Thinline Tele) and the only thing different is he changed out the pick ups for some Seymour Duncans....

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I am going to buy one tomorrow (Sunday) if they still have it.

Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Jagmaster. Here is a picture of it with my Blues Deluxe Reissue.

Here it is with my other Squier guitars. The one on the left is a Cherry Burst Standard Strat and the one on the right is a Vintage Blonde Squier '51.

I gotta ask, how does it sound? I was going to get one of these for my daughter last year and she said she did not like the way it looked. I thought it would do her better for her particular style of music she wants to play.

Hey RK, I am an older noob so I don't have a lot to base it on, but I do know that I like what I hear from it. I have heard mixed reviews on the Duncan designed pickups, but they are more than adequate for me. I played the guitar through three different amps before I bought it and it was very consistent in tone. I liked the short scale neck, too.

I don't know what style of music your daughter is into, but if you'll let me know I will try to record some short sound clips with it. I bought a Tascam DP-004 recently and have been itching to try it out.

Thanks for the offer, she is into Avenge Sevenfold, Saving Able, Green Day, Paramore-type music. She also like Metallica and Stone temple Pilots.

I'd say it's very well suited on its own for alternative and punk; it could work well for metal with a good pedal, but I find the tone is on the tiny side for this. But hey, it's a matter of taste, take her for a test drive.
