Lucky old me! I was given a Squier strat from my wifes friend - It's been under her bed for the last 5 years! After a bit of TLC (tightening up tuners, cleaning and picking around) it seems pretty nice....

Nice finish too. I'm not too keen on the slightly shrill ceramic PUPs, but maybe I'll look at pre-loaded Wilkinson pick guards when I'm next feeling flush (70's Black or late 60's mint?? Hmmm). If when I re-string it with non 10 year old strings, if it holds tuning I'll probably keep the modern tuners although I'm a bit of a fan of old style ping tuners - if they work then I'm happy....

Watch this space!

Mod#1 already!!

So the bridge is slightly crappy - it has a weedy thin inertia block and, the vibrato arm sits very low to the the body even when the bridge is flush, So there is little point setting the thing up to float, as there will be no space to depress the the bar! The bridge set up can't be replaced on this guitar without filling and drilling as the 6 screw spacings are different from a std Fender (they are closer together and the outermost screws are 2 - 3 mm out.)

I've always wanted to try blocking off a trem Clapton style, but have always wondered why clapton only saw fit to block only one side of the inertia bar (especially the wrong side in my opinion - on a clapton Strat, the back of the trem is blocked and the springs are tightened - pulling the inertia block away from the wood block, thus loosening the fit? - not content with the integrity of this concept I chose to block both sides with very tight fitting blocks of wood - getting them back out would be a real challenge!)

I hope it's all pushing/pulling evenly when string tension is applied.

I didnt even notice the tiny shim block on the spring side. Classy work indeed.

I'm back gigging, arranging gigs, promoting gigs again after a 3 year break .
Primarily around the nottingham/leicester area sometimes venturing as far afield as sheffield and northhamptonshire. Please Email me cos i want to buy a demo off you anyway mate.

Sick of big famous bands i much prefer the smaller bands these days.

Nice looking Squire, not bad at all. I am still wainting for that free guitar to fall into my hands. Let us know how the mods go.

Hey - I've had the pcik guard off for a look around, but forgot to take a snap - sorry!

It's got a HSH route and a bit of black sheilding paint slapped around.
It's got those little mini pots and ceramic PUPs, which I find a bit hard sounding. I'm pretty sure I'm buy a pre loaded wilkinson pick guard up at some point. I'm thinking all black....

EDIT: with mexi strat pups or vintage noiseless, and duncan jb in the bridge!

Before you buy any pickups check out gfs pickups at guitarfetish.com I think they have preloaded pickguards. I've bought pickups and pickguards from them good stuff and great price. There are some reviews on harmonycentral.com
